I produced a strategy for increasing tree cover for south Somerset district council ; it is based on assessment of the largest towns, & the whole district, existing & potential - it’s published online as part of the local plan.
Basically there is realistic potential to double (at least) tree cover in every town - and more in rural area - within 30 years.
I expect every town has the same potential. 👍
It is really just a matter of identifying the right tree for the right places.
I usually recommend everywhere aims for 30% Tree cover in 30 years. This ties in with the 30X30 initiative.👍

Ash (Fraxinus spp) trees in the U.K. are likely to be wiped out by ash die back disease. Probably 10%+ of the U.K. broadleaved tree cover is Ash. Very sad. Trying experimental treatments to counter act it but it’s a loooong shot.
