Spadework is a charity that was founded in 1984 that enables people to be more independent, feel less isolated and live happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives. Our aim is to support trainees to develop their personal skills through social interaction with the community and experience of working in a commercial environment as they help to run our plant nursery, garden centre, log deliveries, farm shop and café.

The Green Group have been busy harvesting strawberries and cherries today, picking the delicious fruit they've helped to grow here at Spadework.🍒🍓

After months of planting, caring for and nurturing the crops, it's always exciting to see the harvest begin. The fruit will now make its way to our Trainee Kitchen, where it will be used to create some tasty treats over the coming days.

It's always wonderful to see different groups across site working together and to follow the journey from growing and harvesting produce to preparing and enjoying it in the kitchen!🌱🍰

After a week of showers, thunder and grey skies, our Charity Garden Centre is brighter than ever!💐🌈🌦️

The rain may have dampened a few plans this week, but it has certainly helped our Garden Centre come alive with colour. From beautiful blooms, colourful displays and plenty to inspire your garden.

So whether you're planning a garden project, searching for inspiration or simply looking for somewhere peaceful to spend an hour or two, why not pop in and visit us this weekend?!

We're delighted to be welcoming Pukka Putters to Spadework this June! ⛳🌿

Get ready to tee off on a unique jungle-themed 9-hole mini golf course, built inside a converted HGV lorry and complete with tropical surroundings, fun obstacles and plenty of challenges along the way.🦜🌴

Suitable for all ages, Pukka Putters offers a fantastic activity for families, friends and groups looking for something a little different to enjoy together.

The course will be at Spadework from Monday 1st June to Sunday 14th June 2026, giving visitors the perfect opportunity to enjoy a round of mini golf before exploring our Charity Garden Centre, Farm Shop and Café.

What a brilliant way to round off Volunteers’ Week! Our local MP and Spadework Patron, Tom Tugendhat, took time out of his busy schedule to thank some of our amazing volunteers in person.

After meeting volunteers, Tom then rolled up his sleeves and got stuck in serving delicious lunches freshly prepared by our Trainees for sale in our Tuck Shop.

Commenting on his visit, Tom Tugendhat said: “Volunteers contribute so much to our local community. It was great to be able to personally thank the amazing volunteers at Spadework for everything that they do to support this wonderful charity. Chatting to the volunteers, it is clear that they get just as much from volunteering as they give – social interaction, a sense of purpose, making a difference and last, but not least, having fun!"

This week our Trainees have been celebrating the incredible volunteers who give their time, energy and kindness to support Spadework!✨

Across site, the groups have been getting creative to say thank you. Together they created a special thank you banner and designed a collection of painted stones inspired by our volunteers, each one as unique as the person it represents.

Bright shining stars appeared on many of the stones, with the Trainees choosing them to reflect just how much our volunteers mean to them.

To all of our wonderful volunteers, thank you. Your support means so much to our beneficiaries, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do!

Our Trainees in the Woodwork Room have been busy this morning creating a range of handmade planters from recycled pallet wood.🔨🌱

The group have been experimenting with different shapes and designs, whilst learning how to use a range of tools and machinery to bring their ideas to life. It's been wonderful to see the Trainees getting so creative, trying new techniques and developing new skills along the way.

Keep an eye out for the finished planters, which will be available to purchase in our Charity Garden Centre very soon!!

✨Happy Volunteers’ Week!✨

This week we want to take a moment to say a truly heartfelt THANK YOU to every single one of our amazing volunteers here at Spadework.

From supporting our Trainee sessions and Dementia and Wellbeing groups, to helping in the Café, Farm Shop, Garden Centre and Charity Shop, our volunteers give up their time, energy and kindness to help others and make a difference.

So many of the smiles, conversations, friendships, opportunities and moments of support that happen here each day are made possible because of the people who choose to volunteer with us. Your patience, encouragement and willingness to help never goes unnoticed, and we know just how lucky we are to have such a wonderful team of volunteers.

Thank you for everything you do, for always going the extra mile and for helping make Spadework such a welcoming, supportive, and special place for so many people. We honestly couldn’t do it without you!🩷

After this week’s hot weather, we think you’ve earned a little treat!🍓☀️

Our Farm Shop is stocked with delicious local Hugh Lowe Farms strawberries, alongside tasty Taywell Ice Creams and Simply Ice Cream ice creams, perfect for cooling down in the sunshine this weekend.

And your four-legged friends don’t need to miss out either, as we also have a range of Doggy ice creams available too!
