This lobster is probably over 50 years old! Once a lobster gets to a certain size they are considered breeders. Oversized lobsters like this one are released to keep the population sustainable. This is a key part of why the lobster fishery is so successful and sustainable year after year. For every 7 years of a lobsters’ life it will gain about a pound! So your average market size lobster you eat in a restaurant is about 7 years old!
