Sometimes you have to step away to come back clearer.
After a beautifully full week away, I’ve been thinking about how much we need space.
Not just physical space, but head space. Space to move, laugh, listen to music, be with the people we love, sit under trees, be a bit silly, and remember who we are away from all the roles and responsibilities.
I think we can make rest sound passive, as if it is something we do when everything else is finished.
But I’m learning that rest is active.
It reconnects us.
It softens the edges.
It brings us back to ourselves.
And honestly, that matters in my work too.
Because the homes I design are not just about beautiful rooms. They are about creating places where people can exhale. Places that hold real life, family, joy, quiet, movement, mess, meaning and all the different versions of who we are.
A home that cannot hold stillness is a home that is always asking something of you.
So this is my little Sunday reminder, for me as much as anyone else:
Space matters.
Rest matters.
Joy matters.
And sometimes the most useful thing you can do is step away long enough to hear yourself again.
