Yesterday was my birthday so I visited my absolute favourite garden Great Dixter. I haven’t been for a couple of years and it didn’t disappoint. When thinking about what it is I love about it there is a lot, but it’s mostly the feeling it gives me of being so small with all of nature towering above me. Squeezing through the narrow paths, I feel like Alice in Wonderland!

The beautiful seed pods of the Acacia dealbata tree more commonly known as Mimosa.
It has the most spectacular zingy yellow flowers towards the end of the winter but I have never seen these enchanting rust colour pods before… a stunning contrast to the glaucous lacey leaves.
We planted 3 in a row at the back of this garden 3 years ago when we turned an old car park into garden - you can just see the Mimosa to the left of the 2nd photo when they were planted, they have grown a lot in those 3 years and are now a fantastic feature.
The last photo shows the concrete space that was there before.
Beauty restored by way of nature!

So great to see this little garden blooming after just 3 months.. scroll to the last picture to see the garden as it was and how it looked at the end of March when we redesigned it with a beautiful colour palette of materials and plants to compliment the view of the church building behind it.
With diligent watering from my client the garden is now full of colour and movement, not to mention insects!

A nice before and after for a Monday morning!
It’s amazing what a design can do for a garden, how practical it becomes as well as beautiful and atmospheric.

Bold, large scale pavers expand the view while the strong geometric lines are softened by tall grasses that move and change through the day.

So gorgeous to see this garden in its second Summer since starting with a blank canvas except for the beautiful apple tree. Full of flounce and romance just as desired.
It’s great to go back and see gardens that we planted doing well and thriving!
