Following inspection, it was identified that the existing Accrington brickwork had deteriorated and become structurally unsound (“blown”), rendering it unsuitable as a substrate for the proposed render system. The defective masonry was carefully removed and replaced with dense concrete blockwork to provide a stable and uniform background.
Upon removal of the compromised brickwork, it was observed that the cavity was heavily saturated, which had been contributing to moisture ingress and dampness within the internal fabric of the property. To remediate this issue and improve cavity ventilation, air bricks were installed at low level to facilitate airflow and assist in moisture evaporation.
In addition, weep vents will be incorporated into the system following the application of a full silicone render finish. These will allow for controlled drainage of any residual or penetrating moisture within the cavity, thereby reducing the risk of future damp-related issues.
