The start of a new year often brings a bit more clarity around what isn’t working at home.

For some, it’s a room that no longer fits daily life. For others, it’s a layout that was never quite right, or a project that needed more thought before moving forward.

For anyone new here, welcome to Studio Dimora, an independent interior design studio based in Wilmslow, Cheshire.

We design homes that are functional, warm and carefully considered, shaped around how our clients actually live and use their spaces.

The year ahead is already taking shape with new projects and ideas in motion, and as always, those early conversations play an important role in setting the direction.

If you’re considering changes to your home this year and would like to talk things through, we’re always happy to have a chat. You can send us a DM or explore more via our website - all links in BIO.

FF&E — what does it actually mean?

It’s one of those interior design terms that gets used a lot, but is rarely explained properly.

FF&E stands for Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment.

Essentially everything that turns a space from an empty shell into a home that works: furniture, lighting, rugs, curtains and the elements you interact with every single day.

When FF&E is done well, you don’t really notice it.
The space just feels balanced, comfortable and easy to live in.

This is the first post in a short series where I’ll be breaking down common interior design jargon, explaining what it really means, and why it matters in real homes, not just on mood boards.

If there’s a design term you’ve come across and never quite understood, tell me and we’ll cover it next.

Client feedback like this never gets old.

When this couple got in touch, they’d just moved into their new home and felt overwhelmed by how to make it work, not just visually, but for real life.

Two living rooms.
Different purposes.
One brief: spaces that felt comfortable, balanced and genuinely enjoyable to use.

This is always the goal of my work as an interior designer, creating rooms that support how you live, not just how they look in photos.

Knowing these spaces are now a pleasure for everyday life and entertaining is exactly why I do what I do.

The other day I was driving in the pouring rain, traffic barely moving, radio on low.

And Baby, It’s Cold Outside came on.

In an instant, I wasn’t in the car anymore.

I was already home.

Curtains drawn.
Soft lighting.
A sofa that actually invites you to sit down.

One of those winter evenings where the world slows and your home holds you.

This is the part of interior design that matters most to me.

Not trends.
Not perfect styling.

But spaces that support the moments we imagine when life feels full.

The kind of home you can’t wait to return to on a cold December evening.

Everyone has a version of that moment.

Most living rooms don’t feel small.

They feel overloaded.

Especially at this time of year, when the Christmas tree is up, cushions multiply and furniture slowly drifts back towards the walls, even generous spaces can start to feel tight.

When I design living rooms, I’m rarely trying to make them bigger.

I’m looking at how the space moves, how you walk through it, how your eye travels, and whether each piece has room to breathe.

A room can be full and still feel spacious.

It just needs clarity, balance and a few strategic adjustments.

Save this for the next time your living room feels busy.

Small changes really do make a difference.

Have you ever walked into your living room and thought…

“Why does it still not feel right? I’ve bought everything I was supposed to.”

The truth is, there’s nothing “wrong” with your style.

Your home simply isn’t finished strategically yet.

Most rooms feel incomplete because of one of these three things:
1️⃣ There’s no clear focal point
2️⃣ The colours don’t tell the same story
3️⃣ The finishing 20% is missing (books, lighting, textures, styling, personality)

Once those are in place, everything shifts and the room finally feels intentional, not just “furnished”.

That’s the difference between buying decor… and creating a home.

If you want to understand what’s holding your room back, swipe and choose the one that feels most true: 1, 2 or 3.
