What is free length?

What does it mean, how do you lay it, and what does it look like?

Natural stone comes in either fixed length or free or random length. Free length has a fixed width, usually 50 or 60cm and the length varies. The lengths vary from stone to stone, with some having a large range of sizes, while other stones may only have 3 or 4 different sizes. The quantity of each size is split evenly across your order.

They are designed to be laid in a brick bond with randomised placements to offset the grout lines.

This creates a soft organic feel, suited perfectly to traditional interiors or to add character and texture to newer properties.

Introducing our new Tudor Freelength Sandstone Cobbles

Now, what do we mean by free length? It means that the length of the stone varies, but the width remains the same for each piece. For these cobbles, you get an equal mix of 5 different lengths and a natural mix of colours to give a finish that develops its own character as it’s laid.

Naturally tough and frost resistant, perfectly suited to driveways and pathways. The tumbled edges and textured surface give a softer, timeworn look, making them a perfect addition to period properties and country settings.

There’s a new limestone in town.

Farmhouse Rustic Blend Limestone tiles are made up of a blend of different stones and surface finishes. So expect soft, chalky pieces through to warmer beige tones. The different finishes from stone to stone mimic a floor that has been walked on for centuries, where the well trodden pathways show more wear than those less frequented areas.
