Working on a lovely project at the moment, renewing heating and domestic hot and cold water services to an old property near a beautiful river. Old pipe work was stripped out because it was in old steel barrel and also covered in asbestos. Professionally removed
First fix stage at the moment... All in copper, rubber lined clips and bent where possible to maximise flow rates and minimise noise.

About to take this old beast out. ... natural draught boiler.... Non condensing..... Almost 300 degree of lost heat going up the flue....
It's still working though

Fitted this at the beginning of the week, Vaillant ecotec plus 836
Modulates down to 4.2 kw and heading load adjustment in the installer menus....a really nice bit of kit, and super quiet too as it's in the customers kitchen.....
Easy set up and lovely touch screen.

When your not getting hot water from your combi boiler, or it is pulsing hot to cold, a blocked plate heat exchanger could be the cause. This is a close up of the heating side of the plate heat exchanger.... Totally blocked causing the boiler to over heat and cut in and out. Resulting in very poor hot water, cutting in and out.

This is what can happen if you don't service your booker regularly.... Another engineer has swapped the fan earlier in the week but not done the proper checks. This is the heat exchanger looking from above and the bit at the bottom should come out to clean the HE, but it's almost welded in there.

Just finishing up this install after full commission from omnie engineer. Buffer tank piped in 35mm as per instructions and 35mm bender used to pull bends rather than use elbows and 45 to increase flow rates and reduce resistance. Whole downstairs running underfloor at 32 degrees during the winter and easily maintaining 19 degrees. Upstairs are low temp radiators which haven't even come on yet, even in the cold spell.

This is what happens when the installer poorly supports the kitchen waste pipe, with only one screw in a plaster board wall.
Normally we can suck out most of the rubbish in the pipes by blocking off all wastes and creating a good vacuum, but there was no shifting this..... Years of an inadequate fall on the pipe.
All cut out and renewed, without removing the kitchen units

Today's is the start of a heating upgrade, taking out an old potterton profile 100e, in working condition....
It's non condensing and flue temp going out the wall was measured at 203 degrees.... That's a lot of wasted heat. Going in is an ideal logic heat only 30kw.... Will post updated flue readings when it's in.

Found this gem the other day, micro bore system on old rads but at least the hex on the boiler is stayng clear... New rads and pipe work throughout in the summer time

Mag clean is doing it job protecting the boiler on the return (1st pic) But Luckily I opted to change the pump valves which where not quite holding (2nd pic). Proof the old boiler was blocked up when it originally over heated and was gradually dumping bits into the pump impellers......
New Atag boiler now fitted with 12 year warranty, big water pathways and most importantly it's now got a room stat on it so the customer can expect a large reduction in his gas bill.

Full service on an Ideal Icos he 12.... An older boiler with a bit of a bad reputation. This one tho is still behaving very well and is kept regularly serviced.
