🌳 Celebrating National Tree Week! 🌳

This week we’re honouring three remarkable tree species. Living legends that bring history, beauty, and scale to our landscapes: Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Sequoiadendron giganteum, and Sequoia sempervirens.

🌲 Metasequoia glyptostroboides
Common name: Dawn Redwood
• Once known only from fossils until rediscovered in the 1940s.
• A rare deciduous conifer, turning rich copper tones in autumn.
• Fast-growing, elegant, and truly a “living fossil.”

🌲 Sequoiadendron giganteum
Common name: Giant Sequoia / Wellingtonia / Sierra Redwood
• Among the most massive organisms on Earth, with lifespans over 3,000 years.
• Exceptionally thick, fire-resistant bark.
• A symbol of strength and resilience.

🌲 Sequoia sempervirens
Common name: Coast Redwood
• The tallest tree species in the world, reaching heights over 110 metres.
• Thrives in coastal fog zones that supply extra moisture.
• Often lives for 2,000 years or more.

We’re fortunate to have stunning avenues of these giants close to home.
Kennel Avenue in Ascot and the iconic Wellingtonia Avenue in Finchampstead - beautiful reminders of just how awe-inspiring these species are in the landscape.

Here’s to the trees that inspire us, sustain wildlife, and enrich our environment for generations.
