The family who have been running Mahjacks in Windsor for more than 50 years, have taken the very difficult decision to close their business, mainly due to retirement, around the end of July.

Mahjacks in Dedworth,Windsor, was opened by 18 year old Pamela Edwards in 1966, with just one member of staff. Pam had previously gained experience working for her father in his Uxbridge store, which opened in 1954. The Edwards family went on to open another shop in Little Chalfont, as well as their own Wholesale Company.

Pam's younger sister Jackie, joined the family firm in 1976, together with their respective husbands, Michael and Tony. However, Pam and Jackie were successful in discouraging their own children from joining, as they felt it wasn't an easy way to make a living, with long hours, and time off was rare. Pam's husband, Michael, retired in 2011, which is when Jackie's second husband, Mike, joined to continue managing the Windsor shop.

Competition from the multi nationals has never been a problem for Mahjacks, however, shopping habits are changing, and the internet has taken its toll on the independent retail industry.

Pam, Jackie and Mike, would like to thank all the many employees they've worked with throughout the years, as well as their regular customers, many of whom have become firm friends.
