This Ash tree had a large cavity and rot in the base. It was decided that it was best to remove it before it became a hazard or a much bigger job in the future!
The tree was climbed, dismantled and felled, with the trunk rung up into rounds.

A couple of nice small jobs ticked off the list:

- This Snow Gum was pollarded back to previous pruning cuts, keeping it suitable for its small garden space. Brash was chipped and tipped exactly where the customer wanted it.

- We climbed and fully dismantled a Lombardy Poplar, taking care around the phone line that ran alongside.

Climbed and carried out a light reduction on this beech tree. We aimed for no more than 10% removal of the canopy, to avoid leaving large pruning cuts or dead ends. Mature Beech do not take well to being hacked!

The highest and closest branches to the house were prioritised, following the customer's wishes.

Every branch had to be carefully rigged down to avoid the house, the wall, the decking on the other side, and the plantings below!

Some summer/winter contrast photos. It always surprises customers to hear that winter is actually much busier than spring/summer for us. Just coming to the tail end of winter pruning now.

A nice little job to start the week. Took the top out of these Leylandii and Laurel hedges and chipped up the brash for the customer's use.

LEYLANDII

I always make customers aware that Leylandii does not regenerate from old wood, and therefore hard pruning will effectively kill out sections of hedge. However, when nobody's view looks in on the top, and the sides are healthy, it can be a way of keeping an overgrown hedge fit for purpose. I never advise planting Leylandii, as you have little flexibility with pruning, compared with other species.

The chipper has been out and about recently on lots of different projects. On this site, we chipped up branches from a big Leylandii hedge reduction that we carried out.
The chipper is narrower than a pedestrian access gate and is hydrostatically driven, so it can get to almost any place in a garden.
