🌱 This plant looks well watered, doesn’t it?
You’d think so — it was soaked with a hose for at least 5 minutes! 💦
But after brushing away the top layer of soil, you can clearly see the soil underneath is still bone dry.
This is exactly why I prefer bottom watering. When you water from the top, especially if the soil has become compacted or hydrophobic, water can run straight through the pot or down the sides without properly soaking the root ball.
With bottom watering, the soil absorbs moisture from the bottom up, allowing the entire root system to become evenly hydrated. Once the top of the soil feels damp, you know the whole root ball has had a good drink. 🌿
Just remember to drain away any excess water afterwards so your plant isn’t left sitting in it.
