🌱 This plant looks well watered, doesn’t it?

You’d think so — it was soaked with a hose for at least 5 minutes! 💦

But after brushing away the top layer of soil, you can clearly see the soil underneath is still bone dry.

This is exactly why I prefer bottom watering. When you water from the top, especially if the soil has become compacted or hydrophobic, water can run straight through the pot or down the sides without properly soaking the root ball.

With bottom watering, the soil absorbs moisture from the bottom up, allowing the entire root system to become evenly hydrated. Once the top of the soil feels damp, you know the whole root ball has had a good drink. 🌿

Just remember to drain away any excess water afterwards so your plant isn’t left sitting in it.

Ok ok, maybe I went a bit crazy 🤪 currently can’t move for Oxarlis Triangularis 💜 good job it’s my favourite plant! The purple shamrock is absolutely stunning and so easy to care for, a very robust plant, she will keep coming back even if you get it wrong. Her beautiful leaves close up at night and open in the morning. These gorgeous plants will be available to purchase soon! Watch this space

❄️💧 The first victim of winter over watering. This peperomia green 🪴was looking a bit sorry for itself, losing most of its leaves and the leaves it did have were not healthy. On initial inspection the soil was not looking good, then we got to the roots there it was, dreaded root rot. Using the hose to wash off the soil I lot of the roots just came away. With a good clean up, fresh soil and a smaller pot appropriate to the smaller root ball she’s ready for growing season ☀️💪 the larger leaves her removed so the plant will put its energy into the new growth rather than damaged leaves that would have dropped anyway. Due to the thick stems and leaves peperomia don’t need to be watered very often, let them dry out fully between a good soak. 🪴 she will now go home with care instructions and hopefully grow evenly. 💚 if you need help with the warriors that made it through winter, just get in touch!

Growing season is finally here!!!! 🚨🌿 PLANT RESCUE MISSION: SUCCESSFUL 🌿🚨

After many formal warnings and far too much neglect, I’ve officially taken matters into my own hands and confiscated this fern from the office.

Evidence of plant crime included:
❌ Hardly ever watered
❌ Roots dry and brittle
❌ General “forgotten in the corner” vibes

But fear not — it’s now been repotted, tidied up, and relocated to the jungle that is my kitchen 🌱✨ where it will be watered as needed and live its best leafy life.

Justice for office plants. One fern at a time. 😌🌿

I’m still here! 🌱
However, As we are well into winter dormancy, plant growth naturally slows, so I’m patiently waiting for some of my recent rescues to really flourish. Sorry for being a little quiet!

This time of year is prime for plant rescues — the weather changes, but watering routines often don’t, leaving many plants quietly crying out for help.

If your plant is struggling, take a moment to review your watering routine. And if you’re unsure or need advice… just ask! 💚
