***COVID UPDATE***

As a non essential shop the showroom will be closed from today until allowed to reopen. However fitting will continue for already booked customers who can make their houses Covid safe and wish to have their floorings fitted.

Created by the world renowned rug innovator Louis de Poortere in the famous Flanders weaving area of Belgium. This rug is woven on a wilton jacquard loom using the finest cotton chenille yarns to create intricate detailing and impart the aged distressed look so popular with designers today. The rug will look equally impressive in a contemporary or traditional setting.

This room sized rug measures 280cms x 360cms and being a flatweave with a total pile height of only 8mm is ideal for under a dining table or anywhere where a trip hazard is not desirable.

HARD FLOORING – A PERSONAL OPINION 🗣

LAMINATE FLOORS:
Loads of them out there but I stick with the reliable market leader QUICKSTEP. It’s not the cheapest but it fits together well and is very realistic and reliable.

Neither real wood or laminate likes water but the latest Quickstep floors have been made more water resistant so now better suited to areas prone to moisture eg kitchens and bathrooms.

Another big plus is that a keen handyman can make a good fist of fitting Quickstep which keeps the cost down if you are on a tight budget.


LUXURY VINYL TILES:
The best known being AMTICO and KARNDEAN. Let’s add in POLYFLOR who make the same sort of product albeit in less design options but whose turnover is approximately 50% higher than “the big two”. The reason you probably aren’t aware of Polyflor is that their advertising spend is aimed at me the retailer whilst the other two advertise to you the end user.

These floors replicate wood and stone floors with very realistic designs and loads of options. They are warmer(but not warm) than ceramics and they are more stable and hard wearing than real wood.

BUT and lets destroy a myth here, THEY ARE NEITHER SCRATCH PROOF NOR SCUFF PROOF!!! The reality is they are much more cleanable than carpet and they have no pile to flatten down like carpet, but they are not bulletproof! Careful reading between the lines of the wording of their warranties and frequently asked questions will tell you that. Having said that they are as good as you can get and tougher than domestic vinyls so what’s not to like?

HARD FLOORING – A PERSONAL OPINION 🗣

STONE, CERAMIC & PORCELAIN TILES:
Without a doubt the toughest option. I don’t sell them so it’s only fair I point out the negatives!
1. They are cold, in Winter VERY COLD! If you don’t have underfloor heating you might regret your choice. ❄️
2. They are pretty permanent so if you change your mind in a few years they are harder to uplift and get your subfloor back to how it was. 🔨🔨🔨

REAL WOOD, SOLID OR ENGINEERED:
For traditionalists it is the fact that it is a real natural product that appeals. 🌳
CONS:
1. Are generally softer and scratch more than the man made floors. True they can be sanded but that is both an expensive and messy business, not something to be undertaken lightly.👷🏼
2. Wood, being a natural product, is less tolerant of moisture and temperature changes potentially leading to floors creaking, squeaking or lifting. It is mainly because of these unknowns that I no longer sell wood flooring. 💦
