It was lovely to visit our barn conversion project in Suffolk yesterday, to review works on site and to see how the spaces are taking shape now the windows have been installed.

This project involves the careful conversion and renovation of three curtilage listed barns and the construction of a link extension to create a single dwelling, with loggia and landscaped courtyard.

The design seeks to preserve the character and significance of these existing structures, whilst shaping a home suited to contemporary living.

The proposed works incorporate breathable woodfibre insulation, unpainted lime plaster and exposed woodwool boards, to create a home rich in texture and visual interest.

Plaice’s multi-disciplinary design team modernised a 1930s country house in Suffolk, spanning 360m2, set within 4 acres of gardens.

Hollesley House underwent a complex renovation, stripping it down to its shell - removing ceilings, intermediate and ground floors, and replacing the roof and all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and drainage systems.

Thermal upgrades to floors, walls, and roofs were executed, alongside the installation of new windows and doors. Attention was paid to air tightness and solar control, incorporating brise soleil and tinted solar control glass to manage solar heat.

The project also included constructing four extensions (three single-story and one two-story), reconfiguring existing rooms, and building a three-bay detached cartlodge with a decentralised plant room.

Extensive landscaping, such as terracing, retaining walls, planting, and a new driveway with entrance gates, enhanced the property's impressive gardens and grounds.

By integrating elements such as solar panels, ground source heat pumps, sustainable drainage systems, insulation and air-sealing techniques, our designs embody a comprehensive approach to environmental awareness.

A sustainable building connects with the natural world, creating a relationship with its surrounding environment. We recognise the challenges associated with climate change, biodiversity loss and the limits on nature. Take a sneak peek into our latest eco new build project in Norfolk, brought to life in 3D. This contemporary single storey property will feature high levels of insulation and air tightness combined with solar panels and battery, MVHR and an air source heat pump. The scheme has been designed to fully engage with the landscaped garden whilst carefully managing overlooking and solar gain. We are currently working up construction drawings and look forward to seeing the project on site later this year.

Transformed internally and externally, this Country House is an impressive detached home, sitting comfortably within 4 acres of land, overlooking the East Suffolk coastline. The Ground floor has been carefully crafted to form a series of modern, interlinking spaces, designed for both relaxation and social gatherings.
