Here at Derwent Gas in Workington, West Cumbria, we don't just do boilers, heat pumps and smart controls... we quite literally have a go at anything!

Roofing? Done it.
Joinery? Had a crack at it.
Decorating? Why not!

Well, here's our latest project – installing new cavity trays and lead flashing because our garage has more leaks than a sinking ship! 🚢💦

The funny thing is, after replacing the entire rubber roof (yes, we did that ourselves too!), it turns out the water wasn't coming through the roof at all... it was finding its way in through the cavity wall. 🤦‍♂️

So our latest experiment is to renew the cavity trays in short 1-metre sections at a time and see how we get on. It's either a genius plan or the start of another expensive lesson... we'll keep you posted!

🔥 Big News from Derwent Gas, Workington 🔥

We’ve decided to start offering Air Source Heat Pump installations across West Cumbria in the future.

It won’t happen overnight — we’ve got training and new qualifications to complete first. But we’re excited to get started.

And we’re kicking off by testing it on ourselves.

🏡 Our first heat pump goes in our own home.
We’ll be fitting:
✅ Air Source Heat Pump
✅ Large hot water cylinder
✅ Radiator upgrades where needed
✅ Pipework upgrades if required

Once it’s done, we’ll decommission our gas boiler. Our house will be completely gas-free.

Before anyone asks — this isn’t the end of gas. There are millions of gas boilers in the UK that still need installing, servicing and repairing. We’ll be doing that work for many years to come.

This is about experience. Living with a heat pump day in, day out so we can tell you exactly:
🔍 How well they perform in a real Cumbrian home
💷 What they actually cost to run vs gas
🌡️ How they compare for comfort

No sales pitch. No hype. Just honest feedback from engineers using the tech themselves.
