Refinishing a 100 year old oak parquet floor

A parquet herringbone floor is a type of wood flooring made from small rectangular pieces of wood arranged in a repeating zigzag pattern.

What “parquet” means

“Parquet” refers to decorative wood flooring created from individual wood blocks or strips rather than long continuous planks. It’s known for geometric patterns and a more detailed, traditional look.

What “herringbone” means

“Herringbone” is the specific layout pattern where each wood strip is laid at a 90-degree angle to the next, creating a broken zigzag effect that resembles the skeleton of a herring fish.

That’s how you refresh a kitchen! These dark tiles sucked all the light out of the room and left the space feeling small and gloomy.

Once tiles were broken out, we latexed the floor and laid reclaimed floorboards. Once sanded we coated with Bona Mega Silkmatt finish.

Not only does the space feel bigger, it’s so much lighter and cleaner than before. It was a pleasure completing this for great clients.

So happy with the outcome on this incredible American oak floor. We repaired all damaged areas, lowered down the hearth and infilled with reclaimed 57mm oak boards. Finished in a beautiful silkmatt Bona Mega.

Was a pleasure sanding this dance studio up at . The floor had been exposed to a lot of water which caused the flooring to expand and bow. We sanded this back down flat and filled any large gaps with .uk Gap Master, light beech. Finished in Bona Supersport HD Gloss.
