Brighton’s coastline is home to a rare and vital habitat: the vegetated shingle habitat. Lizard Landscape Design and Ecology got an opportunity to work on the Sea Lanes project to stabilise the shore and support local wildlife through understanding these vital ecologies and designing the planting to suit these exposed and harsh habitats.

Spot these coastal drought tolerant blooms:
Sea Campion, Sea kale, Devil’s-bit Scabious, Viper’s Bugloss, Ox-eye Daisy, Red valerian and more with some naturalised species like Erigeron glaucus 'Sea Breeze' and Senecio cineraria.

Congratulations to Luke Burley on recently being awarded Professional Membership of the Arboricultural Association.

The membership upgrade reflects over 25 years’ industry experience alongside continued professional development, including successful completion of Level 4 and 5 Arboriculture qualifications and a recent Professional Tree Inspection (PTI) assessment.

As part of Lizard’s ongoing work with Medway Council on the delivery of a new dementia care centre, we recently met with the Medway Dementia Friendly Gardening Group in Rochester.

This inspiring group brings people together through gardening, creating a supportive and welcoming environment for people living with dementia, alongside carers and volunteers.

From maintaining sensory planting areas to simply spending time outdoors, the group demonstrates the powerful role that landscape design and nature can play in supporting wellbeing, memory, and social connection.

The visit provided valuable insight into how thoughtful, inclusive landscape design can make a meaningful difference to people’s daily lives and experiences.

Lizard looks forward to sharing more about this important collaboration with Medway Council, while continuing to raise awareness of the unique needs and challenges faced by people living with dementia.

A great result from a Sussex habitat monitoring site managed in partnership with Sussex ARG and the National Trust.

Our consultant ecologist, Sam Hall, recorded this adder during a recent volunteer survey beneath one of the site's refugia - a really encouraging sighting for a relatively small site with high levels of public access and regular dog walkers.

Adders are the UK’s only native venomous snake and are a priority species for conservation, so records like this are an important indicator of habitat quality and successful long-term management.

It’s especially rewarding to see positive outcomes from a site established around four years ago, demonstrating the value of ongoing monitoring, habitat creation and collaborative conservation work.

Lizard Landscape Design & Ecology is pleased to announce its appointment by the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk to undertake a Renewable Energy Potential and Capacity Study (REPCS).

The study will provide an up-to-date evidence base to identify areas with the potential and capacity to accommodate renewable energy generation and electricity network infrastructure across the Borough, supporting the emerging Norfolk & Suffolk Renewable Energy Plan.

Building on Lizard’s previous experience in Landscape Sensitivity Studies, the commission represents an exciting expansion of the practice’s landscape planning services within the rapidly evolving renewable energy sector.
