Here are a brace of Phoenix palms looking resplendent in Hove. I saw dead ones in Crete last year - they were victim's of the rapacious Red Palm Beetle. There are tough restrictions on the import of palms to try to prevent the beetles spread to the UK

Pittosporum tobira: Shiny berries, shiny whorled leaves, sweetly scented flowers. It's great designing on the south coast where so many lovely things thrive
