Jim Almond’s funeral will take place tomorrow, Friday 06 December at 14:30 at Lawnswood Crematorium in Leeds.

For those who can’t attend the service but would like to watch proceedings remotely the service will be streamed live online and will be available on demand from approximately three days afterwards using the link below.

We share here the arrangements for Jim Almond’s final farewell on Friday 6th December.

A service at the Lawnswood Crematorium in Leeds will take place at 14:30.

An informal gathering with light refreshments will follow at 16:00 at Headingly Cricket Ground where we shall celebrate everything he stood for.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of David James Almond on Friday 08 November. Better known as Jim A, he was a legendary character who was universally respected in an industry he served for more than forty years.

Jim was undoubtedly one of the smartest people you might meet. A good man on the tools, whether wood or metal working, he excelled in construction design. Jim's niche became mechanical and structural engineering due to his incredible 3D spatial imagination. He was entirely self-taught in this discipline, yet when challenged by verifying engineers was seldom found to be wrong.

His engineering design work created some of the world’s most spectacular public events at the cutting edge of possibility. Those of you who have worked alongside him will know just how much he contributed.

Most significantly, Jim was a great friend and colleague. He had a fine brain, and his legacy will live on in the creative engineering world for many years to come. In every respect, he was a unique and remarkable man.

It's with great fondness that we wish you well on your final journey, Jim. Thank you for being a huge part of our story.

It was with real sadness that we learned that our great friend and colleague Simon Wood passed away earlier this week. Woody was one of the founding partners of Stage One and worked with us for many years, retiring as Sales Director in 2014.

Woody was fuelled by boundless amounts of enthusiasm and an endless supply of tea. He had an energy about him that infected everyone in his orbit. And it's hard to think of a time when he wasn't wearing his trademark beaming grin.

He did everything at pace, whether it was driving a car or speedwalking from meeting to meeting in London, Woody always had a momentum that served him particularly well in the often chaotic world of live events.

Simon was great at rallying the troops and was quick to put his arm round a shoulder when the going got tough. Following his retirement, he would often drop into the office and kept a strong interest in the development of the business. He was a gentleman and a dear friend to the very end. We shall miss him.

Simon leaves a wife, Carol and a son and a daughter, Jonathan & Jenny. We offer our condolences to them and their extended family.

We are delighted with our recent project delivered in collaboration with the talented Kéré Architecture GmbH team, who we previously teamed up with for the 2017 Serpentine Pavilion. This time, we've created a unique two-room installation for the prestigious Venice Architecture Biennale. The interactive art experience features three distinctive structures, primarily crafted from plywood and enhanced with stunning clay and textured paint finishes.

Our workshops and on-site crew have been busy contributing to high-profile events across the UK recently, from manufacturing, building and de-rig; every stage of the process has made us proud of the work we have accomplished. However, our busy season has just started! With over 500 drawings issued to our workshops for one job, the team is putting the finishing touches to an upcoming complex project that will continue to fill our workshops in the coming month before it makes its way to an even sunnier climate.

This extraordinary event not only brought together musicians and nations, but it also fostered collaboration among backstage crews, designers, project managers, and manufacturers. We extend our gratitude to the BBC for orchestrating such a spectacular celebration of music.

With only a month until opening, we are pleased to share the progress of the Serpentine Galleries build.

Built predominantly from bio-sourced and low-carbon materials, the Serpentine Pavilion 2023 continues Lina Ghotmeh’s focus on sustainability and designing spaces that are conceived in dialogue with the natural environment that surrounds them. The design of the space responds to the shape of the surrounding tree canopies, the internal wooden beams that encircle the perimeter of the Pavilion emerge as thin birch tree trunks.
