This vintage Yamout rug has had a channel sewn down one edge so it can be used as a wall hanging. It could still be used as a rug but it’s soft plush pile and flexibility make it well suited for a throw on the back of a sofa or made into a large floor cushion- which it possibly once was.

And so begins a week of hot & sticky British weather 🌞. We’re definitely not avid sun worshippers, but it sure makes getting things prepped/cleaned and dried much easier- especially old textiles and rugs! These late 19th century rugs are now listed, and we’ll hopefully have some more ready later in the week.

We’ve spent much of the day cleaning a pile of antique rugs and saddle bags. We’ve run out of room on the washing line and the drying rack, so we’ve had to be resourceful with where to place the last few pieces whilst they dry. Fingers crossed those foreboding grey clouds pass over…

Details are now up for the Victorian sofa covered in Laura Ashley ‘Blueberry’ linen. The drop-arm doesn’t just lie flat, it can be altered to rest at different angles with a simple “touch of a button”- the button in this case being a polished ebony k**b on the side. They really don’t make furniture like this anymore!

Minimalists, look away… This Victorian drop-arm sofa has at some point been reupholstered in Laura Ashley ‘Blueberry’ linen - a beautiful plum-coloured design from 1985. So enamoured with the fabric were its owners, they decided to go all-out and had two pairs of curtains and cushions made to match! We realise not everyone will want to be quite so matchy, so the curtains will be available separately. Details available on the website soon.

This old Pitch Pine bookcase was possibly the dirtiest thing we’ve ever had come in. Decades in a workshop had left it caked in stoor. That thick layer of dirt did however, preserve the old paint underneath. It was probably last painted in the 1950s/60s, but does have other colours underneath the blue and white.

We didn’t realise this huge antique lithograph poster wasn’t on the website! It’s original early 1900s, not signed, but very much in the style of other artists of the period, such as Cecil Aldin, William Nicholson and Ludwig Hohlwein. It measures 144cm x 100cm and would have been difficult to print, which is perhaps why the printer got their fingerprints on the edges!

c1840s oil portrait of a Maria Birtwhistle. Born in 1812, she lived in the West Yorkshire area and died at the age of 60. She was buried in a shared grave with her sister Eliza, and Eliza’s family, suggesting she never married and had children of her own. From our initial research, we think there’s more of a story to uncover about her life, including a possible attempt to emigrate to America.

We know it’s not the season for quilted curtains, but these vintage curtains will not only the keep heat in, they’ll also keep the heat out! 🌞

They’re incredibly good quality and were custom made from a shop in Harrogate. They feature a very pretty Italian pictorial design, framed with a coordinating blue trim. They’re double lined with a layer of fleece, pleated with adjustable rods and have an optional matching pelmet.
