It feels a bit odd talking about applying wetters after the weather we've been having of late. However this is one lawn treatment that really does work best if it's applied before it's needed.
What are wetters?
Lawn wetters, aka wetting agents are the greenskeepers' best kept secret. They overcome water surface tension and waxy soil coatings to allow water to pe*****te the soil and circulate around plant roots. The result? A lawn stays greener for longer during dry spells and recovers quicker after periods of drought.
Have you ever noticed how difficult it can be to rehydrate a really dry lawn? Water just seems to either run straight off or pool on the surface. That's because the soil has become hydrophobic. It's a natural phenomenon but it's somewhat annoying because it means that no matter how much water falls on the grass - it just doesn't get to the roots.
Lawn wetters overcome that problem BUT they must be applied BEFORE the soil dries out. That means spring time or early summer. If you wait to see if we get a drought, you'll likely miss your opportunity to make the most of this really effective treatment.
