Honestly my driveway is a bit of a state. BUT it has lots of very pretty wildflowers (or weeds according to my husband). So me and Sam decided to pick some to bring inside. I haven’t planted these - they’ve all been kindly donated by the birds and wind.

We have - Centranthus, Linaria (Toadflax), Barley and the white umbellifer is actually Ground Elder (who knew it had such a pretty flower!)

What’s growing on your driveway?!

Today, in the rain, I’ve been finishing planting on this York garden - it’s such a privilege to be asked to design a garden and I love being able to go back and plant it up and see the vision really come to life.

I’m looking forward to popping back in a months time to see how everything is settling in.

I spent a few hours with the team yesterday, to look after this gorgous garden that I designed and planted up a couple of years ago. The team care for it so well and I just helped do a bit of tweaking yesterday.

I’ve been having a crisis of confidence this week so it’s good to remind myself of what I’ve achieved!

Rosa ‘Madame Alfred Carrière’

Smells amazing, virtually thornless, and flowers all summer long.

Definitely one to add to your collection!

So glad I dug these up and brought them from my old house to my new garden. They’re still in a plastic pot at the moment as I can’t decide where to put them, but they’re putting on a show. Astrantia - I think possibly my favourite flower?!

This video is from last summer, following a consultation with a client that took her raised bed from bare and boring (see final photo) to full of life. Today I popped down to help tame the bed (photos 2 & 3) as with the sun and rain it’s all gone a bit mad! But I absolutely adore this combination of Rosa ‘Vanessa Bell’, Nepeta ‘Six Hills Giants’ and Salvia nemerosa ‘Caradonna’. Oh and who could forget the Erigeron karvinskianus flowing over the sides. Just glorious!

I designed this garden last year and it was built by last Autumn - this week I went to finish off the planting and I took a moment to remember what it was like “before”.

It was a concrete jungle. This is a large garden, but it was covered in concrete pavers, with a single large border holding the trees. Of course with nowhere for the water to go, flooding was a major issue.

Roll on a year and it’s virtually unrecognisable. The whole garden has been softened with SO much more planting space, and different materials breaking up this large area. There are still 3 paved areas but they’re surrounded by gravel beds or planting beds, so the square meterage of permeable surfaces has vastly increased - the clients had no issues with flooding over the winter.

I can’t wait to pop back in a month to see the garden in full colour - the clients have no idea how beautiful the garden is about to look 💚💚💚
