CANDLES
At the mention of the word candle, what comes to mind? Many are the beliefs that has been attached to the use of candles. Today let’s learn a little about what candle is and what it does. It was not until 3000 BC when Egyptians invented a true ignitable wick buried in beeswax, today, there are different types of candles and colors. The votive candle, taper candles, scented candles and decorative candles are some of the types. There are different types of colors and choosing a color depends on your intentions for burning the candle but then all these are just descriptions of what we already know to be candle.
One will ask, what does it mean to lit a candle?. Candle is a self-contained magickal system which represents all the basic elements of the universe. Earth, Air, Fire and water elements.
First element is Earth, it is represented by the unburned wax of the candle whereas the element Air is the smoke, Fire the flame and Water element the melted wax, as such candle has the ability to absorb prayer intentions for release. When lit, candle symbolizes the light in the darkness of life especially in our individual life, you will enjoy the holy illumination of the spirit of truth. This is why it is a good practice to lit candles fused with your intentions for our dearly departed souls to signify a light for them in the next world. Candles are again used in diverse spells and rituals. In our next write up, we will talk about choosing colors of candles for the right intent.
