Material story — salvaged elements.

This project began with a collection of discarded cement tiles recovered from a building. After cleaning and removing the remaining cement from their underside, the pieces were prepared for a new use.

The next step came from another salvaged find: a discarded table top. By bringing these materials together, elements that had reached the end of their original purpose could continue in a new form.

A continuation of the idea that existing materials still hold value when given the opportunity to serve a new function.

Restoring furniture to its proper function while highlighting the marks of use and the details that shaped it. Pieces made from quality materials and thoughtful construction often deserve to continue their life.

Before any work begins, each part of the furniture is carefully examined to understand its structural condition and functional potential.

In this case, a chair left beside a bin became a material story. Through repair, sanding, careful assembly, and natural finishing, the piece gradually returned to function—blending its original form with a refreshed look.

Restoration is not only about fixing objects—it is about recognizing the value already present in materials and allowing them to continue their life.

Time and use have already shaped the material. The process now is slow: cleaning, repairing, and preparing the wood so it can continue its life in a new form.

Material story — production offcuts.

These laser‑cut pieces were acquired as leftover parts from a design studio’s production. Instead of being discarded, the shapes were cut down, refined, and transformed into lighter forms.

Thread is added to bring color and contrast, and the elements are then assembled into small wearable pieces. A continuation of the idea that materials can move from production waste to new forms.

Collaboration

Frazi Ceramix makes wonderful pieces of art - both visual and functional.
As a ceramist and a visual artist, her combined approach for work inspires me a lot.

When she approached me with a request to make frames for her "Mystik Kykladik" gender fluid Venuses porcelain wall decoration series, it immediately caught my attention.
We discussed the idea and agreed to work through the process together, so the frames would reflect her unique style.

I began by cutting the plywood to size and sanding the surfaces, then handed the pieces over for her to paint.
Only after that did I attached the strips from the reclaimed oak parquet, as described in the previous construction reclaim material story.

When slow living is a shared value, comissions can become a wonderful collaboration.

The second material story continues with construction reclaim.

During building renovations, large amounts of wood are often removed and discarded. The pieces shown here were recovered from beside a construction site, just before they were thrown away.

Instead of becoming waste, the material was brought back to the workshop and prepared for reuse. The boards were first flattened and cut to the desired size. From there, smaller strips were shaped and cut at precise angles to create new elements.

Once prepared, the reclaimed pieces are ready to be attached to newly sourced plywood, allowing the material to continue in a different form.

Working with reclaimed construction wood is often unpredictable, but it allows existing materials to remain in use rather than being discarded.
