Studio 9 x NNNN proudly present a new series of curated listening sessions exploring the musical universe via the NNNN/OJAS/Powersoft sound systems and many more.

Our second edition features Xiaolin with special guest Jane Kim on Sat 30 May. Please RSVP for this event. No walk-in accepted. If you want to attend, please DM us.

About the artist

DJ, producer, and vinyl collector Xiaolin crafts emotionally rich, texture-driven journeys shaped by a deep affinity for warmth and atmosphere. Drawing from mid-80s to early 2000s influences, her sound blends analog synths, acid, hypnotic tech house, electro, and dubby downtempo into cinematic, otherworldly narratives.

Her live performances take three forms: “Sun” (sunrise), “Moon” (meditative), and “Body” (club-focused), each reflecting a distinct emotional arc.

Xiaolin has released on 宀 Records, Klasse Wrecks, 20/20 Vision, and Sound Metaphors’ Bless You, with appearances at Panorama Bar, Wonderfruit, Boiler Room, and Rainbow Disco Club.

About the special guest

Jane Kim is a movement and sound artist creating immersive experiences for deep listening, embodiment, and self-inquiry. Blending voice, meditation, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and ancient percussive instruments, her work explores sound as both texture and medicine.

Practicing yoga since 2007 and teaching since 2019, Jane is also the multi-instrumentalist behind UJU, crafting expansive ambient and ritualistic soundscapes through layered gongs, chimes, and resonant frequencies designed for full-body listening experiences.

From intimate deep listening sessions to 8-hour All Night Gong immersions and festivals including Waking Life, Houghton, and Shi Fu Miz, her offerings invite audiences into slower states of presence, imagination, and sensory exploration.

Currently based between Hong Kong and Berlin, Jane continues to explore sound as a medium for connection, introspection, and subtle transformation.

Studio 9 x NNNN proudly present a new series of curated listening sessions exploring the musical universe via the NNNN/OJAS/Powersoft sound systems and many more.

Our first edition kicks off with Mengzy on Sat 2 May. This is an RSVP only event. No walk-in accepted. If you want to attend, please contact us.

About the music curator

DJ, producer, lecturer, journalist and co-founder of UK bass label Feed the Dragon, Mengzy is a dedicated member of the Hong Kong underground scene.

Her lifelong passion for music was kindled from early exposures to her father’s CD and vinyl collection, spanning classical, jazz, soul, rock, new wave, and more.

Then, video game soundtracks and MTV culture of the y2k era provided her first encounters with electronic dance music, planting the seeds for her later career as a DJ.

In this listening session, expect to hear an eclectic range of influences, from Bryan Ferry to Joey Beltram and beyond, drawn from Mengzy’s nascent record collection.

"Contrary to tendencies to associate Nietzsche with supremacist ideologies approaching fascism, Mahler’s musical interpretations of Nietzschean ideas offer a wholly different set of values," writes Leah Batstone.

Nietzsche’s philosophy has long been associated with far-right ideologies. Yet Gustav Mahler’s musical engagement with Nietzsche offers a radically different vision.

Drawing on Nietzsche’s perspectivism, Übermensch, and Eternal Recurrence, Mahler’s symphonies reinterpret Nietzsche’s ideas through a pluralistic and progressive lens.

In this piece, musicologist and curator Leah Batstone details Mahler’s engagement with Nietzsche, arguing that music has the potential not only to mirror political and philosophical debates, but also offer original insight into the defining ideas of an epoch.
