ESKYIU

ESKYIU ESKYIU is a multi-disciplinary architecture studio that actively integrates culture, art, community and technology.

13/09/2022

- Founded in New York in 2005, and subsequently established in Hong Kong, in 2007, ESKYIU is a multi-disciplinary studio that explores how architecture intersects with transformative cultural landscapes, media, products, print, experimental fabrication systems, educational tools, and social sustainability.

This First Projects talk will focus on those aspects of social, technological and environmental change as they relate to the built environment, especially as to how architects might seek to expand their role beyond disciplinary boundaries, benefit from collaborations with experts in other fields, and take a hands-on approach to design and implementation.

“EVERYDAY HERITAGE” 2019/2020 reflects on the original buildings that once stood on site, against the backdrop of the rich history of North Point that surrounds the fabric of the city. The original buildings had the Chinese characters “吉祥大樓一九六零年營建” on the walls of the small former residential workshop. “Lucky Tower built in the year 1960” – these new furniture objects are designed and created by ESKYIU co-founders: .yiu and with their team, they repurposed the terrazzo pieces and tiling to present its history as a poetic tribute to the past. Encased in glass, the colours change along different lighting conditions. As an extension, the dichroic glass material weaves through the entire building vertically, integrating art, heritage and architecture for functional everyday use.
