[ZS03 House of Dreams] Through extensive villagers' meetings and on-site discussions, villagers and designers participated in issues including the overall development direction, core design principles, villager engagement, equal opportunity, and participation processes in construction.

[ZS03 House of Dreams] Donated materials and construction waste was used to test cave wall construction in prototyping workshops. Eventually craftsmen and villagers saw the significance of using waste materials and this process was adopted for most of the surfaces of the House of Dreams.

[Awards] The TIDA Golden Award for Public Space won by the House of Dreams (https://bit.ly/3ca21sk) recognises the value of shared communal values and the co-design of public space. The award highlights the value of shared communal values and the co-design of public space and the level of community engagement in the creation of an innovative sustainable development. The focus on recycling and material use in the production of the public spaces creates examples for other bottom-up and community value projects. The attention to detail as well as the principles engaged in this process result in a rich tapestry of spaces that are open and diverse.

House of Dreams, a cave village in Zhoushan Village, Henan Province was revitalised. As part of this, a community participation workshop on courtyard paving involved over 100 people working groups to design motifs and patterns in the paving.

Two awards in a row!

Last night, we received another award from the International Union of Architects (UIA) and UN-Habitat.

Insitu Project’s House of Dreams was the winner of the UIA 2030 SDG #11 category and was recognised for the “collaborative effort between architect and local community extending through design and construction, in the revitalisation of a historical and cultural site.”
