RIBA Hong Kong Fellows’ Forum 2026 | Reflecting on Practice, Leadership and the Future of Architecture

QUAD Studio was honoured to participate in the RIBA Hong Kong Chapter Fellows’ Forum on 15 June 2026, alongside an inspiring group of architects and industry leaders.

We extend our thanks to the RIBA Hong Kong Chapter for hosting, to Angeliki Koliomichou for moderating the panel discussion, and to Celia Lai and Christopher Lye for opening and closing the event.

The forum featured a compelling presentation by Keith Griffiths, Founder & Principal of Aedas, titled “Connected and Porous Low Energy Cities,” offering a forward-looking vision for sustainable and integrated urban design.

Our Founding Partner, Wai Tang, shared his presentation “Vitruvian Rhapsody,” reflecting on his journey toward RIBA Fellowship—shaped by mentorship, collaboration, and the ongoing development of the Collective Polymath.

The panel discussion also benefited from the valuable insights of Ruffina Thilakartne and Nelson Chen, contributing to a rich exchange on leadership, advocacy, and the evolving impact of AI on architectural practice.

As the industry enters a new era shaped by emerging technologies, the role of architects continues to expand—requiring both critical judgement and the ability to meaningfully curate information.

Mentorship remains central. As AI becomes an increasingly powerful creative tool, guiding the next generation to use it responsibly and effectively will be essential.

Architecture Design Showcase | Hong Kong Design Institute

QUAD Studio would like to thank Henry Chan for inviting our Founding Partner, Wai Tang, to the HKDI Architectural Design Showcase 2026.

It was encouraging to see a shift in how students are approaching their thesis projects — engaging with complex challenges ranging from modular systems to socially driven topics such as mobility and rehabilitation. Translating these ambitions into resolved architectural proposals remains a demanding task, and many projects reflected the difficulty of balancing concept, ex*****on, and context.
While some students struggled to fully resolve their ideas, others demonstrated strong potential, with room for further refinement. A common observation was that in the pursuit of a workable solution, some lost sight of their original conceptual intent.

Notable projects included Dominic Choi’s visually compelling presentation and Alistar Wong’s modular project impressed with its strong form and massing.
Special thanks to Unit Tutor Simon Chan and to fellow panelists Celia Lai, Roger Wu, Peter Hasdell, and Sylvia Lam for the engaging and insightful discussions.

QUAD Studio at Build4Asia Dialogues | Moments Matters

QUAD Studio extends gratitude to Alan Chang and Build4Asia for inviting our Partner of Interiors Sean Leung to share his vision of designing spaces that truly matter.

Sean emphasized that interiors are not just about aesthetics—they shape how people live, connect, and remember. From homes and hotels to F&B venues and workplaces, design must be:

• Meaningful: nurturing comfort, well-being, and connection
• Memorable: evoking emotion through layout and materiality
• Functional: ensuring smooth circulation and durability
• Reasonable: using space and resources wisely

Thoughtful design transforms every visit into an effortless, lasting experience—moments that matter.

During the panel, Sean discussed with moderator Alan Chang the challenges of scale in Hong Kong’s smaller apartments. He explained that regardless of size, his approach focuses on creating communal spaces with flexibility—movable partitions that adapt to different uses. For Sean, great spaces are achieved through creative design rather than cost, encouraging designers to think beyond convention and embrace evolving technologies in our ever-changing world.

QUAD Studio at Build4Asia Awards 2026

The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre hosted the prestigious Build4Asia Awards 2026, celebrating excellence in architecture and interior design across Hong Kong, Greater China, and Southeast Asia.

QUAD Studio extends its gratitude to Mike Staley and ROF Media for inviting Founding Partner Wai Tang to serve as a juror. This marks the fourth time Tang has participated in the jury process, reinforcing his commitment to recognizing and advancing design innovation in the region.

Reflecting on the event, Tang commended the participants for submitting projects of exceptional quality, noting the diversity and ambition that continue to elevate standards in the built environment.

QUAD Studio congratulates all the winners of this year’s awards and looks forward to the next edition in 2028, where the dialogue on design excellence will continue to inspire and shape the future of architecture and interiors across Asia.

RIBA Welcomes Wai Tang into the RIBA Fellowship

We are proud to announce that our Founding Partner, Wai Tang, has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA), in recognition of his sustained and distinguished contribution to architecture and the wider built environment.

The Fellowship Panel commended Wai’s unwavering commitment to sustainability—embracing it not simply as a design requirement, but as a transformative opportunity to reshape cities for the better. His dedication to regional practice, combined with his teaching and mentorship, reflects a deep desire to inspire future generations of architects.

Resilience Gene of Architects

QUAD Studio extends our sincere thanks to Daniel Patzoid and the Architecture Department at The Chinese University of Hong Kong for inviting us to share our perspectives on the current architectural climate. Our discussion explored how knowledge in infrastructure architecture can empower graduates as they step into the profession.

In a lecture titled Resilience Gene of Architects, our Founding Partner Charles Ho guided students through the realities of practice today—addressing market demands and the evolving role of architects in shaping Hong Kong’s future. With the Northern Metropolis positioned as the city’s next “Growth Engine,” we emphasized that all transformation begins with infrastructure.

We hope our insights will inspire students to anticipate challenges, embrace resilience, and cultivate a mindset prepared for the opportunities of their future careers.

CityUHK’s Tunnel of Future Innovation Wins at A&D Awards 2025

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), a young and dynamic institution committed to driving innovation, has added another accolade to its name. The Tunnel of Future Innovation has won Silver in the Best Education Award (Interior Design) at the A&D Awards 2025, one of the region’s most respected honors celebrating groundbreaking design and efficiency.

Designed and built in collaboration with QUAD Studio, the tunnel reimagines the everyday journey into an immersive experience. Stretching 50 meters, it features a continuous LED wall on both sides — composed of over 8,500 8K modules and 100 million pixels — making it the largest indoor LED wall in Hong Kong.
As the primary link between CityUHK’s main campus and Festival Walk shopping mall, the tunnel is one of Hong Kong’s busiest pedestrian routes. Since opening in May last year, it has become both a new landmark for CityUHK and a tourist attraction for the city.

More than a passageway, the Tunnel of Future Innovation is a dynamic platform for art, creativity, and community engagement. It has hosted multi-sensory experiences with academic, cultural, and community themes, showcasing the works of students and alumni while fostering collaboration and dialogue.

QUAD Studio is proud to share that our Tunnel of Future Innovation at City University of Hong Kong has been shortlisted for the Perspective A&D Awards 2025 in the category of Best Education Interior.

This transformative project reimagines the university’s central tunnel as a dynamic, immersive environment. At its heart is a continuous 50 meter LED wall on both sides, composed of over 8,500 8K LED modules and more than 100 million pixels — making it the largest indoor LED wall in Hong Kong to date.
