Still frames from a quiet afternoon — leaves shifting in the breeze, water rippling across the pool, light moving gently through the pavilion. A space designed not only to be seen, but to be felt; where architecture settles into rhythm with air, shade, and reflection.

A quiet corner designed for pause — where the garden becomes an extension of the house itself. This contemplative nook sits at the edge of the lawn, framed by layered tropical planting and anchored by a boundary wall that discreetly separates the service area beyond. More than a leftover space, it is intentionally composed to offer stillness, privacy, and a gentle transition between leisure and utility.

It began as fragments inside a 3D model.
Today, JA Huis stands in real light and real space.
Same design, different phase.

From an empty plot to a lived in home.
JA HUIS grew layer by layer — shaped by time, light, and intention.

This inner courtyard connects the public spaces at the front with the private area at the back. The staircase leads to the second floor and acts as a vertical spine. Beneath it lies a smart storage area, maximizing utility in often-forgotten spaces. The stairs lead to the second floor, where the private and semi-public programs continue.

The living room connects easily with the kitchen, dining area, and inner yard — making it the heart of daily activity. Built-in shelves, soft lighting, and layered textures create a calm and personal space, while warm wood tones keep it grounded and inviting.

The ground floor is divided between public and private zones, subtly delineated by an inner courtyard:
✨ Public Zone: The living room, kitchen, and guest toilet flow openly into one another, creating a vibrant, connected social space. This encourages interaction, family activity, and flexibility in use.
✨ Private Zone: Tucked beyond an inner courtyard, the main bedroom with its en-suite bathroom offers sanctuary. This natural threshold between zones — the courtyard — becomes the heart of the home.

The living room sits at the center of REX House — open, bright, and connected to the kitchen and inner yard. Built-in storage and wood finishes bring warmth and order, while soft tones and natural textures keep the space calm and easy to live in. A curved wall nearby gently defines the flow without closing it off.

REX House is designed to adapt, it keeps what’s meaningful from the original home and adds what’s needed for the future. As life changes — more room, new routines, growing memories — the house is ready to grow too.

Sharing the warm and quiet entrance to REX House. Natural materials like wood and textured stone bring softness to this transitional space. A curved wall guides movement gently, creating a smooth flow from outside to inside without any hard edges.

This area was originally the front terrace of the house. We enclosed it to create a foyer — a practical and calming space to prepare before entering or leaving the home.

The carport and front seating area of REX House are designed as an extension of the home’s quiet presence. Curved lines soften the edges, guiding movement naturally from the gate to the front door. A tree and open brickwork bring in light, air, and a sense of ease — making this outdoor corner feel both functional and warm.

The project began with a simple yet powerful ambition — to retain the soul of the old house while enriching it with new spaces that encourage openness, interaction, and natural flow. The design embraces humility and cohesion, avoiding overt dominance over its surroundings. From the street, the home quietly presents itself as a modest single-story dwelling. This is achieved by subtly degrading the front roofline, creating a visual lightness that integrates effortlessly with the neighborhood.

We’re excited to share with you our latest project: REX House!

REX, short for Renovation & Extension, is a home designed with a respectful eye toward the past and a vision for contemporary living. At its core, the REX House preserves the original character of the existing structure while integrating a modern extension.

This house was designed for a young couple starting their family — a space that supports them today, and grows with them over time. It’s not just about adding rooms, but about creating a home that feels connected, calm, and ready for the future.

More stories and spaces from REX House coming soon — stay tuned!
