From old into new.

1. View from central part of Castle basement into new apartment entrance hall. New 1 hour fire door made to resemble existing doors, which were retained and refurbished.

Over 230 years of patina on that wall.
Delighted we decided to carefully reveal the historic texture in this new apartment that we created in the semi basement of a historic house. The gorgeous polished concrete floor and birch ply fittings are new! Just need to tidy up those cables -

Lovely work by our contractor Rory McArdle and cabinetry by LDS Carpentry.

Architect's own house.

Last year we started with the refurb and extension to a semi-D 'Pembroke cottage' (a protected structure in the Booterstown Pembroke Cottage Conservation area). Built in the 1870's and 1880's Pembroke Cottages were workers cottages built on lands belonging to the Earl of Pembroke.

We demolished a 1970's garage and rear extension and the remaining outdoor loo (they were beyond converting). Internally we stripped out all inappropriate finishes to improve breathability. We've had the missing sash and case windows and shutters remade. The only existing original fabric removed was one small opening to the rear and 2 velux rooflights - maximum transformation through minimum intervention.

Looking forward to getting this finished once the lockdown is eased.

We'll start posting site photos now.
