We are sad to announce that J&B Hope Ltd. “keeping life simple” will be closing our doors at the end of March. This was not an easy decision, but was made inevitable by Andy’s change in career, his and Jackie’s taking up parish life in Sligo, as well as changes in Abby’s and Nathan’s lives. It is a story that must, for now or forever, come to an end.
Twelve years ago we opened our doors in the middle of a recession, partly out of necessity to provide an economic opportunity for our family but also to engage in a small retail experiment, an “Amish influenced, Irish-American General Store” based on the Christian principal of loving your neighbour. Thank you all so much for loving us as much as we have loved you.
It has been our pleasure to serve Cavan and, from the beginning, people who have been “the best customers in the world.” We have felt loved by people across the community—townspeople, country people, members of the travelling community, rich, poor, Bohemian, religious and the not religious—all wonderful customers who have made our lives better.
From the beginning, our goal has been to treat everyone with love and respect and provide the best quality of products at the most reasonable prices. It was hard to always be successful in these things, so thank you so much for working with us and supporting us even when we struggled to keep these promises. We will miss you all, especially our close neighbours on Bridge Street, the friends who came in every day, and those who have so generously supported us from the beginning. For those who have so often complemented our coffee, it has been our pleasure.
What is our greatest treasure? The idea that someday when passing down Bridge Street, a parent will point and say, ‘I used to get a free lolly there when I was your age. It always helped to say “please” and “thank you!”
We will be around until the 30th so do feel free to drop in and say “Hello”.
