– AMOR FATI – 💫
So proud to have run 100 km this month for an amazing cause. For every woman who’s ever held her breath when she should have been free to laugh. This one’s for you. 🤍
“How did your donations help?”🪷
Her name is Nora, and she is 72 years old.
Every time her husband walked into the room, she would hold her breath. Panic would spread through her whole body. She’d sit frozen, smiling faintly, waiting to see what he would do next.
Sometimes it was insults or degrading comments.
Sometimes it was something more dangerous, toward himself, or toward her.
Always, it was about his power and control.
You might think that after 51 years of marriage, Nora would have become used to it.
But you never get used to terror.
It’s hard to believe that an older woman like Nora could be in this situation, but domestic abuse knows no boundaries.
Her tears only made things worse, opening her to even more emotional abuse and cruel judgment.
Her 48-year-old son had moved back home, hoping to protect her… but he had become his father’s mirror.
Nora felt suffocated, trapped, and completely alone.
She thought it would never end, that there was no escape.
A few months ago, she secretly called Women’s Aid and spoke to a support worker.
They offered her reassurance, no pressure, they simply let her speak.
She’s moving slowly, still afraid of what might happen if they find out she called.
But it was her first step.
Nora said: “I don’t feel so alone anymore. They’re helping me make a safety plan. My next steps will be big ones, but I want to take them. At 72, I’m finally ready.”
Your donations helped someone like Nora find somewhere to turn.
They help Women’s Aid provide free and confidential services, including a 24-hour national freephone helpline, face-to-face support, small grants and financial assistance, and guidance through court proceedings.
Your efforts also support the work of building a society with zero tolerance for abuse, helping Women’s Aid advocate, influence, train, and campaign to reduce the scale of both physical and emotional violence, and the damage it causes to women, children 🙏 , and our communities.
Love always ♥️
