See how the light ripples in this photo—that’s the old glass in the sash windows.

Old window glass looks wavy because it was hand-blown, so the thickness isn’t uniform, unlike today’s perfectly flat float glass.

That distortion is part of why it’s protected in historic buildings, even if it’s less energy-efficient.

After three renovations, this is the framework I come back to every time.

These are the decisions that have the biggest impact on how a home looks, feels, and functions long term.

Good renovations aren’t about trends, they’re about getting the fundamentals right.

Save this if you’re planning a project, or in the middle of one.

Kitchen stools are surprisingly hard to get right. I didn’t want anything bulky or overstuffed cluttering up the island, especially those high-back, upholstered styles that can feel a bit heavy in the space.

In the end, I leaned into something more minimal. The black adds just the right amount of contrast against the warm wood, and keeps everything feeling clean and intentional.

We’ve gone with three for now, which feels balanced without overcrowding, but I won’t rule out a fourth someday.

They say you should set aside around 5–10% of your renovation budget for landscaping and honestly, I get it now.

Since moving into a south-facing home, our garden has truly become an extra room. The second the weather improves, we’re out there as much as possible. It’s completely changed how we use our space.

Before starting the renovation, I was determined not to just “wing it” with the garden. We decided to work with a landscape designer to create a proper plan…something thoughtful, functional, and built to grow over time.

Right now, everything is still finding its feet and the plants are quite young, but I already love how it’s coming together. I genuinely can’t wait to see how it evolves over the next couple of years.

Choosing to invest in a landscape architect was one of the best decisions we made 🤍

This little box room has lived many lives. From “just make it usable” fixes, to wardrobe duty, to a brief stint as a wardrobe and Jessica’s nursery (those loud old pipes were not sleep-friendly 😅). Now? It’s officially her pink palace—dress-up corner, unicorns, dollhouses, and every shade of pink she can find. Still, somehow… not pink enough for her💗🎀🌸

Renovation is one of the most stressful things you can go through, but nights like tonight - putting the kids to bed in a home we love, on Christmas Eve, after watching Home Alone- make it feel worth it. After a long year of renovating, I’m so thankful for all the people who worked on our home, everyone who followed along and all the collabs that made this all possible. A very special thanks to for getting it to where it is.

I loved this house when I viewed it. Yes, it was dated and a bit cramped but I loved its character. Its higgeldy piggeldy layout was so interesting and it took a long time living here for us to unravel how it was intended to be, and how it was before it had seen so many modifications over the decades. The low ceilings in this area is where the bathroom on the return landing is above. That combined with a monstrous chimney which conservation dictated must stay meant we were a little resigned to this house being a warren of unusable spaces. helped us work through this and came up with this central lobby area and utilities layout.
Now the WC and utility make use of the low ceiling area, hidden behind a panelled wall built by and a dream coffee dock and pantry by .kitchens
