What stood out to us in Martin O’Neill’s thinking is how he describes sustained success.

In football, as in business, once you have had a strong period the expectation is not to repeat it, but to build on it. That requires the right mindset, the right people, and the right leadership.

His point about fresh ideas and new players is not about change for the sake of it. It is about keeping standards high, keeping people challenged, and making sure the environment never becomes comfortable. That is what drives consistency at the top level.

He also highlights something that is often underestimated in business, confidence and man management. The best leaders do not just manage performance, they build belief. They create an environment where people are clear, trusted, and motivated to deliver.

At GDC Interiors, that is very much how we operate already. Success comes from strong culture, good people, and a constant focus on raising standards while staying positive about what comes next.

That is what sustained performance looks like when you are already performing well.

GDC are celebrating two fantastic milestones within the team.

Congratulations to our Senior Interior Designer, Johanna Corry, on two years with GDC. Johanna’s creativity, dedication and contribution to the design team have made a real impact, particularly through her work on the Old Head Kinsale project. We’re delighted to have her as part of the team.

We’re also celebrating three years with our Assistant Accountant, Jennifer Spence. Jennifer’s hard work, reliability and support across the business have been greatly valued by the accounts team and beyond. Thank you for all that you do, Jennifer.

We’re sending some of our clients a gift box including Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara.
A must-read for leaders in hospitality, the book is a powerful reflection on service, culture, leadership, and the impact of creating truly unforgettable experiences. It’s packed with lessons on going beyond expectations, paying attention to the details that matter, and building meaningful connections with people.

In a world where great service is often overlooked, Unreasonable Hospitality is a reminder that extraordinary experiences don’t happen by accident, they’re created with intention.

For those receiving a copy, we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Over the past few months, we’ve been immersed in one of Ireland’s most remarkable estates. Respecting its heritage, refining each space, and perfecting every detail to match the level this extraordinary setting demands.

We’re excited to share what’s been taking shape behind the scenes.

The most expensive material decision in any hotel refurbishment is the one that needs replacing after three years.

Not the one with the highest specification cost.

The one that was chosen for its appearance at the time of opening rather than its performance over time.

At GDC we specify hotel materials against a seven-year lifecycle. Every surface, every fitting, every floor covering is evaluated not just for how it looks in the show bedroom but for how it will look and feel after ten thousand guests have experienced it.

A material that ages gracefully is a commercial asset. A material that shows its wear within two years is a liability that compounds at every room-night sold.

Specification is the most important budget conversation in any refurbishment project.

Get it right and the investment lasts. Get it wrong and the investment starts again.
