Situated on the slopes of the Dublin hills, the garden consists of two acres surrounding the residence, the original part of which was built in the mid -1800s. The view over the city of Dublin and Dublin Bay is truly magnificent. A visit to Ticknock Lodge is worthwhile for this reason alone. An important feature of the garden is the stream flowing all the way through from the upper levels, forming
informal pools in its descent. The Japanese influenced main pool lies in cool semi-shade, whilst the theme of the sunny lower pool is that of soft greys, with citrus notes. A stroll through the garden reveals two major sloping terraces, well-stocked with shrubs and perennials; a rose pergola; a woodland walk with several varieties of magnolia, acer, rhododendron and hydrangea; a separate moist garden; as well as other planted areas. Peacefulness and calm, fresh air, birdsong, and the gentle gurgling of the fresh stream characterises an enjoyable visit to this garden.
