Give Up Yer Aul Tings

Give Up Yer Aul Tings https://linktr.ee/stuffhappensemma My name is Emma and I understand Tings.

I have an MA in Material Culture and wrote my dissertation about the effect our culture of constant consumption can have on our mental wellbeing. As a result I am passionate about helping people cut the crap from their lives, learn how to curb the inflow of useless stuff they don't need, and appreciate the things they own which they truly love. What interests me is the emotional clutter that can b

uild up alongside the physical and I specialise in gentling encouraging people to understand why they can't seem to throw out that shrunken stained dress or the foot bath that's never been used. I have arranged and supported the clear out of wardrobes, playrooms, kitchens, offices and basements, and have helped people archive their personal papers and memoranda. I also provide a disposal service and am committed to finding the most ethical and environmentally friendly homes for unwanted items. The sense of freedom and relief that comes from
decluttering is enormous and will make your living spaces cleaner, your mind lighter and your spending habits healthier. "Out of clutter find simplicity."

Thank you so much for having me on your brilliant podcast 🀩

This conversation was a lifeline a while back after a long week of media chats focused purely on clutter. Ali allowing me to talk about the bigger sustainability picture was such a boost πŸ’œ

We cover guilt around personal responsibility and perfectionism in making the right choices, greenwashing, fast fashion, hope for the future, consumerism and Covid, and all my usual psychology of shopping shtick πŸ˜…πŸ˜‡

Thank you Ali!

Each one of us is different and therefore there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to how we organise our homes.

In Stuff Happens! I talk about the different tidying personalities and how to work with them- each of us can even have different preferences in how our possessions are laid out for different parts of the house.

This question is always Number One for me ☝️

If you set up a system that looks great but is fiddly and takes time to use, how are you expected to maintain it when you’ve a million other things on your mind throughout the day?

I’m into making life easier, not more complicated πŸ˜‡

Start from here and you’ve half the battle won!

World Recycling Day πŸŽ‰
Have shared this info before but I’ll never tire of it until we move away from relying so completely on recycling to deal with our waste problems 😎

1.REDUCE
2.REuse
3.recycle

In that order!

The most gorgeous gifts arrived from my extremely talented friend who runs sustainable jewellery brand .

She made the blue studs to go with my book 😭πŸ₯°
Maeve says the hearts remind her of - I agree!

Maeve is the most inspiring artist and activist (I shared a beautiful short film she made about trees in my stories). She has so much integrity and is working in the space where climate adaptation and art collide.

These earrings have given me such a pick me up and I will treasure them. Knowing where objects have come from means so much πŸ₯°. Thank you Maeve! πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Impossible to take this photo but my stunning drawer storage boxes deserve the grid πŸ˜‚

Zero waste organising and storage is one of my fav fav things to talk about!

With drawers, you wanna be able to see what’s inside the minute you open them- say no to the crammed mess of stuff with the bottom layer lost forever!

We all have so many boxes around the house- sure we’re falling down with them in lockdown!

My faves to use for drawer storage are:
Chocolate boxes
Phone boxes
Jewellery boxes
Sturdy food tubs
Butter tubs
Mug boxes
Candle boxes

Use your imagination and use. What. You. Have! ♻️♻️♻️♻️♻️♻️

Tag me if you like and I’ll share to inspire others!

A book by the lovely Emma Gleeson from Give Up Yer Aul Tings
I'm going to enjoy this book for a few reasons (guess who is doing homeschooling πŸ˜‚)
πŸ“šEmma's stories on Facebook are always spot on
πŸ“šIt covers what to chuck *responsibly*
πŸ“šIt addresses how clutter can impact your home and headspace
πŸ“šHow fast fashion and diet culture can impact both of these too
Congratulations Emma on your book!
