🌿🌺 Plant of the week 🌺 🌿
Hydrangeas are highly sought-after shrubs famous for their lush foliage and large, showy blooms. They thrive best in fertile, moisture-retentive soil and partial shade.
They are ideal for Irish coastal and inland gardens, specific care—such as pruning methods and flower color manipulation—depends entirely on the variety you are growing.
✨️ Did you know? The flower color of Hydrangea macrophylla and Hydrangea serrata is directly influenced by the acidity in your soil?
💙Blue Blooms: Require highly acidic soil (pH below 6.0). You can lower your soil pH by adding aluminum sulfate or ericaceous compost.
🩷Pink Blooms: Require alkaline or neutral soil (pH above 6.5). You can raise your soil pH by adding garden lime.
💜Purple Blooms: Occur in mildly acidic soils with a pH between 6.0 and 6.5.
