A full Match Report of the Junior B County Final by Gary Donohue.

Our Junior B footballers won their second County title in 3 years with a hard fought 2-8 to 0-9 victory over an experienced Corofin side.

Playing against the wind in the first half, we started the stronger team with Kyle McLoughin scoring a point inside the first minute. The next score of the game was a Chris Greaney goal on 4 minutes when he pulled on a bouncing ball first time and finished to the corner of the net.

Corofin responded on 7 minutes with their first score of the game. It would be another 10 minutes before the next score came from a Chris Greaney free. This gave us the impetus to push on and Martin Scully was able to point after we won the resulting kick out. Jack Duggan would make it 1-4 to a point after 19 minutes before Chris again pointed on the 22nd minute. Corofin proved how good a side they are by battling back into the game scoring 6 of the next 7 points. Two points on the 27th minute and another on the 29th preceded a Martin O'Neill point on the 30th minute. With a number of injuries in the first half, 7 minutes of added time was announced and Corofin made the most of it scoring on the 32nd, 33rd and 36th minute to leave the score at 1-6 to 7 points at half time.

The second half proved to be a low scoring attritional affair and it was 9 minutes before the first score of the second half came from a Chris Greaney free.
Corofin took control of the ball for the next 10 minutes but couldnt convert their possession into scores with 3 wides in a row. But again they proved how good a side they are with 2 unanswered points on the 47th and 49th minutes to leave a point between the sides with 10 minutes to go.

Then came the massive turning point in the game on the 54th minute. A Chris Greaney free went wide and as we were resetting, Martin Scully was able to intercept the kick out. The whole of Tuam Stadium was willing him to pass it to a wide open Chris Greaney but Martin isn't one for doing what he's told and he was able to slot the ball into an empty net from outside the old D.

This took the wind out of Corofin's sails and the scoring was finished by a Jack Duggan free on the 67th minute which gave us a 5 point win 2-8 to 9 points to secure our second County Title in 3 years.

Another successful year for this team which has an excellent blend of youth and experience. We have 3 players playing their first year of adult football and Martin O Neill winning two Junior B county titles 25 years apart.

Management would like to say thanks to all the players for their commitment and dedication during the year and look forward to Junior A football next year.
