Our cottage is for sale. It's been an utter joy renovating it, experiencing rural life, the quietness, the sunsets, the history, walks to the lake, the stove in winter, late nights in the garden in summer and spending time here with friends and family. But we live in London and can't spend as much time here as hoped. It's also time for us to move on to our next renovation project whatever that might be...

Right beside the cottage are ‘the ruins’ as we call them. The remains of another building long gone. We often dream of what we could do with this... When we refurbished the cottage and installed a new water treatment plant we brought water and electrics to the ruins to give us the provision in the future to create some additional living space, without having to dig up the land around the cottage again! The dream of course would be to have music studio and design studio side-by-side 😉. But for now it’s mainly a good hide-and-seek facility! @ Galway, Ireland

The back of the cottage has a few separate garden areas with old stone walls around. These walls were so covered in ivy and the gardens so overgrown when we found the cottage that it was a surprise as to what the layout was underneath it all. We needed to lay new pipes and install a new water treatment plant so we had to dig up everything for this. Then we levelled two of the garden areas with soil and planted grass. Also plenty of sheds along the side to store garden furniture, paddling pool, barbecue etc! @ Galway, Ireland

The mezzanine. This is great as a kids den on rainy days but also the sofa converts into a double bed for extra guests. It’s a great place to sleep as it’s warm from the stove below and you get the sunlight gently filtering up in the morning from the living room windows below. Floor has been painted in Night Jewels. All the woodwork that looks white is actually a very pale colour. This is to soften the bright whitewashed walls (which we felt important to keep as its such a traditional aspect of a thatched cottage). @ Galway, Ireland
