I am excited to finally have the opportunity to share one of the projects I am proud to have been part of in 2024/25. It was a pleasure to work with ENEXIV / Hallquar Engineering Services on the interior design and fit out of the The Duke - Maynooth student accommodation.
The project took an exhausted historic piece of local architecture and breathed new life into it by transforming it into much needed student accommodation. The approach to this mixed-use development embraces the blend of old and new, preserving the architectural and historical elements of the original building.
The interior design was inspired by a fresh industrial style, focusing on functionality, raw materials, open spaces, and pops of colour. This scheme is executed through the combination of mixed materials and textures, which help to break up space and zone functions within communal areas.
The furniture and material finishes are both functional and practical, with an emphasis on sturdy construction and minimal embellishment. The modular design allows for easy movement and reconfiguration to suit the needs of the end users.
The combination of colours, materials, and lighting gives the interior a functional, spacious, fun yet mature style.
On the front of the first floor, three impressive recreational rooms are housed within the original part of the building. These spaces pay homage to the building's history through inspired room signage and period interior elements such as bespoke window screening, wall panelling, and the repurposing of existing wall recesses to create unique bookcases.
A credit to all involved.
