We have received reports from members of the public who have received unsolicited seeds in the post from an unknown sender from outside of the EU.

This is similar to events reported in numerous other countries around the world, and some of these packages have been labelled as 'jewellery'.

As the seed origin/type is currently unknown, we are asking the public not to plant the seeds to prevent potential introduction of pests or invasive plant species into Ireland.

Anyone importing seeds, plants or plant products from outside of the EU must be registered with us and consignments require a phytosanitary certificate to prevent the introduction of harmful pests and invasive species into Ireland and the EU.

Registration is free of charge, and information and forms are available at: https://www.agriculture.gov.ie/farmingsectors/planthealthtrade/registrationproceduresforimport/

Don't plant or compost the seeds as they may pose a risk to the environment.

Always source any and responsibly from known suppliers.

If you have received seeds by post that you didn't order please email: [email protected]

High possibility of heavy storm damage tomorrow with storm Brendan. Please heed advise and take your time on the roads. If you come across trees down on power lines, contact the ESB immediately on 1850-372-999, power may still be live making tree live. Storm force winds will be around until early evening so please do not attempt to clear fallen branches or trees alone. Storm damage trees are extremely unpredictable, call a professional to deal with them, we have trained on highly specialist courses to deal with these exact situations.

STORM BRENDAN

In the past hour Met Éireann has upgraded the warning for Meath to Status Orange.

Strong southerly winds will reach mean speeds of 65 to 80 km/h with gusts generally up to 130 km/h, higher in exposed areas.

Motorists should exercise extreme care and watch out for falling/fallen debris on the road and vehicles veering across the road. Control of a vehicle may be affected by strong cross winds. High sided vehicles and motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable to strong winds.

Pedestrians and cyclsist should wear a high visibility jacket and take extra care when near traffic or crossing the road in extremely windy conditions as a sudden gust of wind could blow you into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

This warning is valid from 8am to 3pm tomorrow Monday.

With less than 3 weeks to go I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has entered a team so far, sponsored a hole or prize. Still plenty of tee times availabe, and a few holes left to sponsor. The golf winners, 2nd and 3rd, nearest pin and longest drive will be announced and there will also be a raffle in Kiltale clubhouse from 9pm on the Friday night where there are some fantastic prizes from hampers to vouchers and a signed 2019 Leinster rugby ball, including Devin toner and Hughie O'Sullivan. This is for a fantastic cause, and to raise a glass in memory of the main man himself.
