DOD Architects Kerry Ireland

DOD Architects Kerry Ireland Kerry based dod-architects is a very dynamic Architects office with over 35 years of experience in high quality Residential, Commercial and Interior Design

Kerry based dod-architects is a very dynamic Architects office with over 35 years of local experience in high quality Residential, Commercial, Interior and Landscape Design mainly in the Cork and Kerry area. We now are providing Design Services also nation wide in conjunction with local engineers. We specialise in Contemporary and Traditional Design Styles with a high ergonomic input, maximising

insulation, day-lighting and site orientation for best living conditions and thermal performance. Same care and quality is applied to our smallest cottages as to our large Manor style residences. Whether in traditional or contemporary architectural style, we aim to blend our designs into the local environment complimented with, if the budget allows, bespoke landscape designs to give your building a sense of belonging and making you feel at home in your own environment. Architecture does not start nor end at your front door, the site should be an integral part of the design creating external space as an extension of the interior environment.

Nowadays surveying can be done by programmed robotic drones and create a pointcloud in which a design can be developed. Attached rendering shows in the background the old tiny cottage with existing conservatory and in the foreground the proposed large extension, under an angle to make best use of solar gain and views. The extension is planned on a very steep bank which was accurately displayed as a pointcloud in which we could check all levels, digging, rockbreaking etc. The 3D views inside the ArchiCad software are already so realistic that a photographic rendering is not really necessary and would loose the pointcoud (if shown, here only the mesh generated from the poincloud shown). Just a screenshot with a bit of photoshop and presents a great impression of what the finished result could be, above all very quickly!

Over the past 12 months we have been working on a large house. Quite traditional exterior but with very contemporary touches inside.

The last few years the cost of construction in Ireland has increased by at least 60%. This will for most aspiring house owners present a huge shock and makes anything other than a simple bungalow unaffordable for many. For us architects this presents a huge problem as well, in particular while the last few years houses were for sale below cost. This has more than balanced out in the cities but in rural Ireland this still is a problem and the current huge costs involved in building a house does not return an immediate good investment as the resulting value will most likely be still below costs. But hopefully in time this will correct itself and gain value again as a modern constructed house compliant with latest Building Regulations with high insulation values will be appreciated.

Panelling samples, shown in 3D will give you a great feel for the end result. Also interior design proposals are presented to our clients in full 3D (apart from free standing furniture which will be generic from our library but could be modelled to match selected furniture as well )

Where I live, outside towns and villages, it is getting much harder to get planning permission on Greenfield sites. So lots of extensions and refurbishments. This is another example of an extension (to the left) with glazed roof stairs "tower".
