If you don’t fancy the full haircut that I did last week on the pot of trailing petunia then is might be the easier option
Reposting this from last year because it’s such good advice on how to make the most of your trailing Petunias!
So if you want a massive flush of petunia blooms this season? The secret is in the pinch! Don’t let your petunias get tall, leggy, and sparse. Pinching them back early encourages the plant to branch out, turning a single spindly stem into a dense, bushy mound completely covered in flowers.
🌸 Do this when your young plants are about 4 to 6 inches tall, or anytime they start looking leggy.
🌸 Locate the main central stem and pinch the tip right above a set of leaves. You can use your fingers or clean scissors/secateurs
🌸 This forces the plant to send out new shoots from the leaf nodes, ultimately doubling your blooms!
🌸 Don’t be afraid to give them a haircut mid-summer if they stretch out again.
🌸 Your reward will be a vibrant, non-stop wave of color all season long!

Planting dry plants directly into compost is a very common mistake that can lead to plants struggling to root into freshly planted soil and in many cases dying! Many people think that watering the whole pot after planting will do the trick but that couldn’t be further from the truth!

🌸 Did you know that dry compost is naturally hydrophobic so it actually repels water!
🌸 Dry roots shrink and become brittle so without pre soaking, the plant will struggle to root into the surrounding soil, leading to slow growth and/or sudden wilting.
🌸 Fill a bucket with water and submerge your dry plant’s root ball. Leave it for 5–10 minutes until the air bubbles stop rising.
🌸 While not essential, I like to make sure the compost is also slightly wet before filling your pot or digging your hole

It was a case of fill the pots where ever we could today for customers who thankfully were happy to wait for the service which we really appreciated, these blue pots are sold out after today and I can see why, they are great quality with stunning design 💕

Today was another level of busy here in the garden centre, pots were being loaded into the back of cars and jeeps faster than I could cope with 😂
We had a lovely couple in who had asked for pots to be filled and we of course were happy to oblige!
I love when customers give me free reign so I went with vibrant hot reds, yellows and oranges to compliment these stunning Atlantis pots with a green ceramic top, I love the way they turned out 💯🌸

If your petunias are looking a little leggy, don’t be afraid to give them a good trim. Cutting them back actually encourages bushy, new growth and guarantees a massive, colorful explosion of flowers in just a couple of weeks.

How and when to do it:
🌸 Locate the longest, leggy stems and cut them back by about a third to half their length.
🌸 Do this early in the season to encourage better plants
🌸 You can repeat even with single stems that look spare
🌸 Give them a fresh boost of plant food and water well, I like to use a slow release fertiliser in mine
Let me know in the comments below will you be making the cut??👇
