We are delighted to to share that Enniscorthy Primary Care Centre has won the prestigious UK Healthcare Design Award in the Best Architectural Design (International) category. Cathal and Mark travelled to London for the ceremony and to collect the award with colleagues from Primary Health Properties PLC and Axis Group. With Planning Permission already granted for the next phase of development on the Enniscorthy campus, we are hopeful of further great things to come!

We are delighted to share these progress photographs as our development of the REACH Offices in Roscrea, Co. Tipperary for the North Tipperary Development Company nears completion. The project is really coming together. Well done to the team at MLC Builders and looking forward to completion in Q1 2025!

We are all so proud of Nayara, one of our graduate architects, who recently completed the year long Building Information Modelling (BIM) with Project Management Course and graduated from Colaiste Dhulaigh College of Further Education last week! Well done Nayara!

We are delighted to share that we have secured full Planning Permission for a residential scheme in Gort, Co. Galway. The development consists of 68 units ranging from 5 bed detatched houses, 3 & 4 bed semi-detatched houses, 2 & 3 bed terraced units as well as mix of single storey and duplex apartments all situated on a landscaped site with two central green area including equipped play areas. The Team was managed by Edward Cotter Partnership and we worked alongside Punch Consulting Engineers, Woods PS & Town & Country Planning Consultants.

We have been working with Listowel Community Centre on an exciting new development of their existing facility since last Summer. Having established a close working relationship with the Committee to progress the design, we are delighted to share images of the proposed scheme which will expand and enhance the provision of community and sports facilities. Following local consultation, we have been instructed to proceed to Planning Stage and we look forward to bringing this exciting one step closer to reality.

Quinn Architects is delighted to share that we have become a member of the Irish Green Building Council and look forward to active engagement with the IGBC in terms of focussed training and upskilling as well as participation in seminars and workshops to share knowledge and experience with other Design Team professionals and Contractors. We have recently completed a €5.6 million deep retrofit at Gaelscoil Sheoirse Clancy and we have a similar project in the Healthcare sector commencing in Dublin later in the year… more details to follow soon!

Many thanks to our colleagues Mark Killeen and Richie McAllister for the guided office tour of the refurbishment of Gaelscoil Sheoirse Clancy, formerly Galvone National School, at Roxboro in Limerick.

Our involvement with the Southside Education Campus stretches back to 2012 when we first worked on the masterplan for the Campus. Having successfully delivered the Child & Family Centre, completed in 2019, we were delighted to be appointed to oversee the next major Campus development - the transformation of this 1970’s school building.

The works included a deep retrofit to the external envelope of the building, the construction of new entrances and lift towers to the north and south towers of the old school and an extensive internal refurbishment. The building was refurbished in three phases to facilitate a live school environment with the final phase scheduled for completion by the end of this month.

It is great to see old buildings like this being given a new lease of life. The refurbished building will accommodate Gaelscoil Sheoirse Clancy and also offer a range of support services to the wider community. Thanks to the Main Contractor, , who were a pleasure to work with and to the support of the Design Team comprising Hayes Higgins Partnership (C&S), T5 Partnership Ltd. (M&E), McLoughlin & Associates (QS) and ARUP (PSDP).

We were delighted to welcome Professor George Kapelos FRAIC from the Toronto Metropolitan University to our office on Wednesday.

In 1958, Charles J. Quinn, founder of Quinn Architects and grandfather of Cathal Quinn, submitted an entry to the international architectural competition for Toronto City Hall & Square. Professor Kapelos is the author of the book ‘Competing Modernisms: Toronto’s New City Hall and Square’ which celebrates this major competition which attracted over 500 entries from all over the world.

He is now conducting research and interviews for a new book which will follow up on the impact of that seminal competition. He met with Cathal and John Quinn to learn about the evolution of the practice and was able to share with us images of drawings submitted by Charles over 70 years ago!

CareBright Village, completed in 2017, is Ireland’s first purpose built community for people living with dementia and was developed following extensive research in Ireland and across Europe. This project, situated on a four-acre site in the heart of Bruff, provides independent living along with a vibrant community for those living with dementia. The development comprises of three 6 bedroom houses, each with its own living space and private garden, staffed in accordance with the needs of the residents. The separate Daycare Hub offers a range of facilities to its visitors which include a public café, therapy facilities and is a place of meeting for residents, visitors and the local community. The buildings are set in landscaped sensory gardens with an animal sanctuary, outdoor seating and looped paths. The CareBright Village is a person centred, activity based model of care, similar to the very successful household model being used at Hogewey in Holland. It helps the residents to feel at home and enjoy autonomy over their daily lives. Research on best practice models has found that the small scale household model has a greater positive impact on the quality of life for people living with dementia. This model reinforces quality care and support for everyone living in this community.

Congratulations to on their recent appointment to deliver Youghal Primary Care Centre in Youghal, Co. Cork. We were delighted to support Axis in their bid and have already commenced work on the Planning Application with our Design Team partners at OCSC, CEL, Edward Cotter Partnership and Aegis Safety Ltd. Looking forward to delivering our next Primary Care Centre in 2024.

Planning Permission Granted!

We have received full Planning Permission from Wexford County Council for the development of an Enhanced Community Care (ECC) building in Enniscorthy. The new 4,600m2 ECC development will complement the existing Primary Care Centre (PCC) on adjoining site, which we completed in February 2022, to create a healthcare hub to serve the local community. The new building will provide specialist HSE healthcare facilities, including diagnostics, especially for older people and people with chronic disease. The HSE’s Enhanced Community Care (ECC) programme aims to enhance and increase community health services and reduce pressure on hospital services. Quinn Architects are proud to take a leading role in making such developments happen across Ireland.

The main building axis runs north-south to minimise solar gain whilst also allowing the ECC development to become a natural extension of the PCC site. The building form and finishes take precedent from the adjoining Primary Care Centre with a continuation of a similar material palette including a low level brick plinth to ground the building, vertical powder coated fins on upper levels to provide solar shading and cladding panels to emphasise the primary building entry points. We feel this design approach brings valuable sustainable, welcoming and age-friendly attributes to the development which we hope the community of Enniscorthy and the surrounding area will enjoy for many years to come!
