Joshua Elliott and Sons Ltd was founded in 1914 (celebrating our centenary this year) and began business in the Blackwater Sawmills on the "Mollies" in Navan, located at the bottom of Flower Hill - the mill ruins are still standing and can be seen from the new N51 bridge. Built originally as William Morgans mill in 1840 - it was later owned by Mortimers. The business thrived through two world and
one civil war manufacturing a diverse range of timber products amongst which were cartwheels, wooden washboards, ammunition boxes, shafts for horse carts, components for furniture, shovels, wooden hay rakes (sold by the dozen!) spades and all manner of hand tools. A division of the company was Nash Engineering - a foundry located where the inner relief road now runs at the back of Ludlow Street. In the 1960's we began importing "Granyte" furniture finishes which we still sell to this day amongst other brand names. Since the decline of the furniture trade in Ireland we have evolved into a specialist supplier of a large range of paints, varnishes and stains for timber and a range of light industrial coatings. We also continue to supply various timber products to local industry - sawdust is in our veins!
