How to protect drawer and door holes when painting.
Using masking tape to protect the holes of drawer or door handles/knobs is a tip that saves you from digging dried paint out of the holes later!
If you paint the front of a drawer or door without taping the back of the hole, paint can often seep down and accumulate on the inside. When you go to screw your handle back in, that collection of dried paint can crack and possibly splinter the wood or cause the new paint on the front to peel.
• Remove the handles/knobs first
• Tear off small pieces of masking tape and place them over each hole on the inside of the drawer or door
• Press firmly around the edges so paint can’t seep through.
Why it works:
• It stops paint from dripping into the holes and clogging them.
• Keeps the holes clean so your screws go back in easily.
• Prevents messy build-up around the edges on the front.
• If you’re changing handles, fill old holes before painting instead of taping them.
It’s a small step but it makes a big difference to the final look!
