Here are a few of my recent mixed media pieces. They’re purely experimental and came into existence without much thought or planning - almost like a visual stream of consciousness. 😉

I love how this little abstract piece turned out.
Working on these small, low pressure artworks is a real form of mindfulness and I’m often surprised by the results.

My favorite part by far is to rummage through my collection of words and phrases I’ve been salvaging from an old copy of Lord of the Rings. 😊 I usually just scan the pages for any little nuggets that stand out to me and they eventually find their way into my artwork.

I hope glimpsing this little piece brings you joy.

My fabulous friend Caoimhe Walsh reminded me that it’s ok to repost things we’ve already posted. 😉

I‘m still absolutely obsessed with my paper maché moon and she finally found a place on my wall. 😊 I actually have a matching sun in the making - I just haven’t gotten around to painting her yet, so maybe I should tackle that in the next few days.

Anyway - enjoy the moon & tell me something good in the comments! ✌️

I stumbled across this piece I painted ~4 years ago, and I remember exactly how I felt.

I was having a rough few days, overstimulated, burnt out and my brain was screaming in discomfort.
I hadn’t been diagnosed with ADHD yet (but looking at it, it’s so blatantly obvious now 🙈), I just knew that I was feeling „too much“, not quite „right“ and I needed to paint this piece to comfort myself and soothe my nervous system.

I got quite emotional now when I found the painting stashed in a box - I think I might finish the background and finally give her a home on my wall. 🥰

Just for fun - rating some of my recent sketchbook pages. 😁
This mini sketchbook is now full and it’s official the first sketchbook in my ENTIRE LIFE I ever “finished” (…and I’ve had sketchbooks for the past 20 years 🤪), so I’ll definitely show you a full flip through soon.

The most important thing for me is to have FUN in my sketchbook and to let go of perfection or the pressure to create something “beautiful”.
For me it definitely takes time and active unlearning to let go of those old thought patterns (“it’s not good enough”, “what if it doesn’t look good?”, “I’m wasting my art supplies…”), but in a time where AI churns out an endless amount of heartless, plagiarized and butchered “art”, we really have to remind ourselves that everything we make with our own hands, our own brain, our own creativity and soul is incredible valuable and worth making.

Which page is your favorite? I’d love to read it in the comments. ☺️

If you’ve been following me for a while, you probably know that this account started off as “FatJoy Fineart”.
Back then I exclusively painted fat bodies - mainly to help me work through my own experiences of ED, body image issues and decades of diet culture conditioning and my work seemed to resonate with many of you.

However, the more comfortable and content I became in my own body, the less I “needed” my paintings and over time I simply stopped painting bodies altogether.

But this week I was confronted with my old work, and the absolute joy it brings to the person who owns it.
And I felt inspired to paint this joyful little piece in my sketchbook.

Not because I needed it for my mental health, or because I felt I “had to” (for content or for sales, etc), but out of pure joy and my own enjoyment. 😊

I absolutely treasure her and am delighted she’ll live in my sketchbook from now on.

More sketchbook. Every day. 🤗
This page started as a cover up - the marker I used on the reverse side bled through massively, so i decided to glue down a magazine page to cover it up and just started doodling from there.

I love how my sketchbook is becoming a real place of play and curiosity and a place of „doing“ rather than overthinking. Here’s to many more pages filled with random art. ❤️

A little recap of some of the things I made last month. 😊
I had good intentions to use my sketchbooks more - and I actually did! My main focus was on play, curiosity and getting into the habit of finding little pockets of time to create, not so much on creating “sellable art”, and I think I’ll keep going with that for yet another while - it feels good. ❤️

Do you have a favorite page/piece? 🤗
