Benjamin Millar - Guitar Maker

My name is Benjamin. I was born in 1982 in Metula, Israel. Raised in Givatayim, I went to the Thelma Yellin high school of the arts, playing bass in the jazz music program. In 2000 I started working at Zamir Havkin’s piano restoration and repair workshop. between 2003 and 2005 I studies industrial design at the Holon Institute of Technology. In 2005 I took a guitar building course at Jacob Algranati’s school, after which I worked for him doing guitar repairs and set-ups. In 2010 I participated in an acoustic guitar building master-class with Haim Algranati, a guitar maker based in London. In 2009 I started working as an independent, building and repairing guitars. I opened my current workshop in 2011, in which I build custom-ordered instruments and teach the craft of guitar making. שמי בנימין. נולדתי בשנת 1982 במטולה. גדלתי בגבעתיים ולמדתי במגמת הג'אז בבית הספר התיכון לאומנויות תלמה ילין (בס). בשנת 2000 התחלתי לעבוד בשיפוץ ורסטורציה של פסנתרים בבית המלאכה של זמיר חבקין. בין השנים 2003־2005 למדתי עיצוב תעשייתי במכון הטכנולוגי חולון. בשנת 2005 התחלתי ללמוד את מלאכת בניית הגיטרות אצל הבונה הותיק יעקב אלגרנטי, ואצלו גם עבדתי זמן מה כמתקן. בשנת 2010 השתתפתי בסדנה לבניית גיטרות אקוסטיות שהנחה חיים אלגרנטי, בונה גיטרות הגר בלונדון. משנת 2009 אני עובד כבונה ומתקן גיטרות עצמאי. את בית המלאכה הנוכחי חנכתי בשנת 2011 ובו אני בונה לפי הזמנה כלי־פריטה – שגרתיים יותר ושגרתיים פחות – ומלמד את אוּמנות בניית הגיטרה.
