This may be about Cars, but it's a perfect example of why I recommend people who have older Maytag Machines to hold on to them. It's pretty much the same idea, newer appliances use so much Plastic, (many fridges especially Asian ones - Sharp, LG, Samsung, and Beko are almost all plastic inside! Of course sometimes an old machine does eventually die and needs to be replaced but as long as you can hold on to an old machine, especially one that was built well - such as most old American or German models. Hold on to it!

Thanks to those of you who have recently joined, I am working on getting more people and will then continue with the tips. I think I will do a new tip for every 100 new people, only 78 to go, maybe we should make it every 50? Common folks let's spread the word :)

Tip #1 (November) To Buy or Not to Buy (the extras) That is the Question!

When you purchase a new appliance you are often offered (harassed? lol) to buy various extras which cost almost as much as the machine. (OK, not that much but expensive never the less).

Usually these are not necessary.

For example, when you purchase a washing machine, the people who set it up will try to sell you magnets to prevent אבן (calcium deposits, which can harm your machine). Don't buy them. I have seen no difference in machines with or without them, they are expensive and there are better ways to deal with preventing those calcium deposits. (More on this next time).

There is also no need for a stand on wheels, unless you really like frequently moving your machine as it makes your machine harder to service (harder for me!) and balancing issues (bad for you!)

If you are ever unsure, feel free to give me a call as I can get you most of these things 1/3 less than the "chevra" will charge you, although I will usually recommend that you don't purchase them at all.
